Will a copy of a birth certificate with the raised seal get you to the bahamas? |
I already asked my trvael agent if we need a passport to take a cruise to the bahamas and she said no. All we need is a digital license and birth certificate. I have the copy with the raised seal, not my original. Will this be accepted? |

Yes you can enter the Bahamas with a raised seal birth certificate and license. You must also have a return ticket home. Its only the US who changed their entry requirements, however on June 15, 2007, the House of Representatives voted to hold off enforcing the passport law until 2008. You will need to apply for a passport and receive a receipt from the State Department saying that you applied for one. While you are waiting for it, you can use your birth certificate and driver's license and show the immigration officials upon your return to the US this receipt for entry. |

as mentioned the law re passports for travel has been suspended PROVIDED THAT YOU SHOW YOU HAVE APPLIED for a passport; and the law requiring passports now is for FLYING only; cruise travel is/was exempted till Jan 2008. |

No it wont u need a passport now, they made a new law not to long ago that you need one if traveling out of the U.S. |

I would ask your travel agent whether they need the original or the copy. The copy should be fine since it has the seal though.
I'm also taking a cruise to the Bahamas, but they didn't say to bring that stuff, just the passport and these papers you had to fill out. |

Technically you do not yet need a passport to travel by ship to the Bahamas, but some cruise lines are requiring that passengers have them Call the cruise line yourself or be VERY sure your agent has asked THEM. |

Yes it will on carnival. Check with your cruise line. I always travel with carnival and i always use my birth certificate. As of December we all will need a passport so you might as well apply now. It is taking 10 weeks to come back and the price keeps going up on the passport also. Good luck |

They actually prefer the one with the raised seal as it is considered a certified copy. We were hasseled before when my husband had the original issed to his parents that did not have a seal. |

A certified copy is just as good as original. But I suggest you get a passport...time to buck up America and live like the rest of the world. |

I would check again. The US DID lift the restrictions regarding passports until Septemeber to go to Mexico, the Bahamas and Bermuda.....ONLY UNTIL SEPTEMBER though. If are traveling before then, you may be okay but I would advise getting a passport because they may not allow you back in the United States. |

No one actually answered my question...
I was not asking about a passport, clearly I already know I don't need one as I stated above. Again, It says I ASKED my TRAVEL AGENT. She said a Digital License and a BIRTH CERTIFICATE to travel VIA a Cruise. I am asking, if a certified copy with a raised seal will be accepted. Does any one know? |

I thought recent laws changed that now made passports mandatory, you can't even drive to and from Canada without them. I would double check If I was you. |
|

?
 |
Yes you can. The laws that were enacted requiring passports for just about everywhere have been temporarily suspended during this summer travel season. |
