I have a world currency converter Ive been peeking at. However its still a bit hard to tell just what that conversion really means in that particular country.
Is it legal to travel through Canada to get there, or is that asking for trouble? My Canadian niece is getting married in Cuba, but I do not know if, or how, we can attend from the States....

Maybe, depends on the carrier. Mine worked (sprint) when I was in Punta Cana at my hotel, but it was very expensive ($1/minute).

Call your cellphone provider and tell them your travel plans and ask them IF your phone will work AND what the cost per minute would be. Some cell providers work well in the D.R. but are a bit expensive.

Best thing to do is ring your service provider and check with them.
I haven't had to in the past but different providers have different policies.

Yupp. well, mine did, i have verizone. But i think you shouldn't call anyone cause it will cost a lot more,becasue I sent a txt and it cost like 10$

It really depends on your carrier and whether or not you have a world phone. Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T usually work. Just contact your service provider in advance and make sure your phone can be used abroad. It can be expensive though, so only use it if you really have to. Otherwise, just use a calling card.
