oh, it'll work alright!! As for the roaming charges, you're going to feel that pain when you get back from your trip. As long as you're in US territory, there'll be no roaming charges, but as soon as you get outside of the US, i.e. the Bahamas, there'll be this wonderful thing they call "international roaming". I found this out the hard way. If you don't need to do a lot of yakking while trying to relax, DON'T. If you'll have access to a computer (most hotels off this now) you can email them every so often to keep up with the goings on without you here in the land of the free. lol. have a good trip. you're gonna LOVE IT!! BTW, for those of you who don't understand plain english........the question is if the phone will work in the Bahamas, NOT to be confused for the question "will the SIM card in the phone work in a different phone!!" DUH!!!

Since cingular became At&T and they have an agreement with Batelco.. then YES.. Cingular works in the main cities of the bahamas (not the out islands).

Phones need to be GSM with 1900 mhz frequency (which most international phones have). You need to CALL you carrier and ask them to turn on International Service.

Cell service in the bahamas is hit or miss.. even with local phones.. so don't depend on your service.
Incoming and outgoing calls cost $2.29per minute and you will pay for miss calls or calls gone to voice mail if you leave your phone on and miss a call.

Txt service is also expensive.. and does not account for those who have free txting or pay for a bundle. they are $.45 to $/ 65 per txt.. incoming and outgoing..
So an afternoon of texting you BFF.. can cost you a hundred bucks or so.. easy.

As for verizon.. it's NOT supposed to work.. but some can still get signals from the old towers.

Don't plan on using your phone unless it's critical.. or unless you have plenty of money to pay the bill. It's not unusual for people to get a $200 - $400 phone bill after a week of calling home.

call the company you have & make sure you find out what kinds of charges you can expect if any. That might depend on your plan & you might want to change you plan before leaving.

Yes, your phone will work, but it will be in international roaming and will cost you a fortune. You are better off not using it.

Well, Your phone will work if it is unlocked.
To keep it simple, each phone company uses a different "network" So thats why, lets say, Cingular sim cards wont work with Tmobile phones and vice versa. because some phones are locked into one "network" , so if you unlock the phone, you can access all the "networks". Remember its just the phone so you'll have to get a local phone plan and put that sim card into the phone.
