Would anyone like D.R. and Haiti to stop hating each other and come together as a unified country??...?

Noo.. not that i have anything against Haitians... but i think we should stay the way we are because evethough we're very close to each other we have our differences.. We don't have a common language, we don't share a common religious tradition since voudoun is the de facto majority belief in Haiti, even while Catholicism gets official recognition as the majority religion. We don't have a common culture since the foundation of our culture is derived from the Iberian peninsula and the foundations of Haitian culture are derived from France and Africa. And while we do have similar racial components, Dominicans (like all Latin Americans of Iberian extraction), make it a point to point out that the precentages of white, black, and mixed are very different on our side. While this may seem trivial, even backward to you...keep in mind that a people's view of itself is the heart and soul of its cultural distinctiveness. All cultures are arbitrary ideas. But a people's arbitrary definition of its culture is what makes it distinctive from all others.

Well that would be great for Haiti and BAD for the DR. Haiti has deforested itself so they can use the trees for cooking. Causes much flooding everytime it rains since there is nothing to absorb the water.

The Dominican Republic is full of graft and corruption from the police, judges right up to the President including each and every polititian.

Haiti is so corrupt food rots in customs warehouses that were meant for the poorest of the poor.

Crime in Haiti is scary.

This is impossible, because Dominican Republic is now a growing country and Haiti is a completly lost country Â¨disaster countryÂ¨ like some people call it. It would be a economical disaster for the DR. because Haiti is a country who need 250 years to get back in the run!

noooooooooo..i mean nothing againts haitians but i mean we already share the island why should we share anything more.. lol
we dont even speak the same language i mean they arent even a spanish speaking country so what if they came together they will be so hard headed and no one will come to an agreement to whether be a krio speaking country,french or spanish,.. i think thats too much to ask

it would be nice if they stopped hating eachother, but maybe not become one nation since their cultures have many differences, including language.

It could never do. I'm Dominican, and I have nothing personal against Haitians, but they ARE invading us little by little. They are leaving Dominicans without jobs, which is a bit scarce right now.

Our differences go back to the 1500s. The island was divided between Spain (D.R) and France (Haiti). In 1822 the Haitians invaded us. They ruled over us until 1844, when we go our independence from them.

The point is, they let their side of the island ruin, and now you are proposing we leave them our side, too? What they need to do is stop trying to come to D.R. to have a "better life," but try to make their side livable again. Develop some plan to rescue their nation.

What you are asking is the same as asking the USA to unify themselves with Mexico. It is the same here with Haiti.

Yes we are located in the same island but, we are NOT and NEVER will be one nation. For that to happen, either country will have to give up their originality and culture.

Remember, we do not even speak the same language, nor we share the same believes in anything. Food, religion, language, and culture in general are different between the 2 countries.

It's like asking Mexico and US to unite because they are right next to each other. Not happening!

Part of the reason why we might not get along to well is because Dominicans used to be slaves for Haitians.

I particularly do not have any issues with Hatians or any other country in the world. I Just think we should keep things separate, like they are now.

A better relationship between the two countries would be nice, but uniting the two....... ??? You are asking a little tooooo much.

NEVER... i dont mind fixing problems but i dont want my country to unite with haiti... and i dont have anything against haiti, i go all the time.. but its better that way..

no it would not work, since DR has been a country the haitians and the dominicans have been separated, with good reason, they can't stand each other and trying to do this is just virtually impossible, especially since voting for or against it would not work either, most dominicans about what 90% of them would say no, and haitians i dont know, because their country is one of the poorest countries in the world, the government would think about it but i don't think they would be happy. The hate between started since the dominican republic got was trying to get it's independence, and it was a blodd battle, and thats exactly what could happen if they tr to come together, i mean not all dominicans hate haitians, and not all hatians hate dominicans but there is a strong dislike mutually, i think things chould just stay how they are so that blood has to be spilled, or cause the dominican republic to go poorer

This would be spiritual suicide. Haiti is the voodoo capitol of the Caribbean. The DM is known for its worship of Christ. My church is the largest non Catholic denomination in the DM. The bible says, "How can two walk together except they agree." It also says not to be unequally yoked. There is a price to pay for devil worship ping.

Keep in mind that Haiti used to be paradise about one hundred years ago then the voodoo dynasty president took over. Every since they embraced black magic, poverty, crime, sickness, and violence took the island by storm. The DM cannot afford to care for its own citizens and haitians.

I like dominicans because they are mild mannered compared to Puerto Ricans, African Americans, Cubans, whites, and other groups.

To the Dominicana Princessa:

Give it a break!!!! The world knows your history, and it is the exact as any other offshoot out of Africa. Yours being mixed with Spanish, and the Haitians being mixed with French. In some circles, the French are more valued and are considered more classy than the Spainish.

Your rhetoric is a bit overwhelming.
