Hi Grant !
Me again, like I told you before in previous answer, you need both of them. So for excursions you can pay in us Dollars and for shopping it is better to pay in pesos, which you can redraw with your card any time you need some cash pesos (the rate is 33,7 for 1 us dollar today) if you need more info just send me a mail.
I hope this helped
Enjoy your stay!!

I would just use my debit/credit card in the airport when I arrive. You always get the best rate from ATMs rather than exchange booths.
Be sure to let your bank know you will be traveling so they do not turn off your card for being used in a foreign country.
Enjoy your travels.

No you won't need to change u.s. for peso's. I was there recently and never changed currency to buy anything. The shops on the resort, along the beach, and in town all took U.S. Dollars and even preferred that we paid in U.S. I did get some of the local currency to give to my nehpews and neices. I do this from all the places I travel to and they get a kick out of adding the new additions to their collections.

You can use both Peso and US dollars. I was there two years ago. Just incase you dont know, they expect a tip for everything out there (and I mean everything)! so just be sure to have some small change change or notes handy for that!!

Reggae has a good answer, ATMs have the best rate. Also, the US dollar is weaker than most currencies righ now, so not many people really want it - Euros are a bit more in demand.

You should probably take both. Although many of the tourist spots will accept US dollars, you will sometimes end up paying more that way. You can find places there to change money if you don't want to do it beforehand but try to take a little with you for transportation and food when you first arrive. It will depend also on where you're going. Like I said, if a tourist area you won't need to worry too much about it.

you would do well to have both. Business in tourist areas would likely accept US dollars but businesses that don't usually deal with tourists might not want US money and may want Dominican pesos.
Check to see how much it is going to cost you to exchange US money for Dominican money. It may be cheaper for you to wait and change the money there or it may not be easy for you to change your money there and you may want to change it here instead.
