well as one person said which was a very good point/question...do you even speak creole? the majority of Haitians speak creole because it is their natve language and if you go alone do you have enough resources? Haiti's water is dirty and food supplies are quite scarce...you should go with a responsible adult...you could put yourself in a little danger too because at this point the food is scarce and people are at their wits end...usually people who vist Haiti go in groups and caryy very large supplies of food an WATER!! especially water.

I lived on Haiti for about 2 years and, with all the unrest and violence that has been going on there this past year, I would not go back right now.. and I can SPEAK CREOLE... if you are going there alone... you NEED TO SPEAK CREOLE... or you won't be able to do anything because most Haitians DON'T TALK ENGLISH.. and.. just WHERE do you plan to live and how do you plan to survive.. at 17 you don't have ANY job skills they would need on the impoverished island.

no, you can rent a hotel online and catch a cab from the airport to your hotel. i think you go to Jacmel lots of pretty girls and beaches. best to gave a visa card there are atm in port au price. but it is better to go into a bank and have a small amount taken out and have it converted then and there.

If you were my son, I wouldn't hear of your going there alone. In case I sound over-protective, one of my sons went to Madagascar on his own for a few months aged 16 and I have been to Haiti myself and live nearby. However, there is a very real danger of being robbed and/or kidnapped. Even people who live on the island seem resigned to needing bodyguards as they move around.

Probably not. The Haitians are mostly a peaceful people. I go to a Christian University and we send people to Haiti to help teach them, feed them, and cure them. You will likely want to hook up with some such group if possible though, simply so you'll never be stranded.

There are many security issues within Haiti and it can be dangerous. If it's important to you to visit the island, I would recommend a cruise that stops off in Labadee Haiti. Of course you won't get the full effect of the island but you will still be able to appreciate the scenery. They also offer walking tours where locals can discuss their history and culture with you -- along with the social unrest. If this interests you check out Royal Caribbean they offer sailings to Labadee.

It would be best if you had someone from there to greet you and be a chaperon. From what I hear it might not be so safe for you and you might draw attention if you are white.

maybe not from being attacked, but you should refrain from unprotected sex u could get HIV, refrain from drinking the water and watch out for mosquito bites.

Why not go somewhere cool like Antigua?
