I'd love to go if it was like the adverts you see on telly. However the reality of Jamaica is something quite different. There is massive corruption it is a major through traffic port for smuggling South American Cocaine.
Possession of firearms is widespread and shootings, murder and rape are high (not just confined to kingston).
So although there may be beautiful weather food and of course women. You may find yourself confined to the compound of the resort and to organised tours.
Luckily my wife is Jamaican and she has family still there, those that have not been murdered so they have a good knowledge of where is safe to go.
American tourists are their particular favourite targets as they are considered the most affluent. |
