Would you vacation in Cuba if you could? |
It's currently illegal for U.S. residents to travel to Cuba without special waivers. If we were suddenly allowed to go there like we do other Caribbean countries, would you consider taking a vacation there? |

I am actually going to visit my husband's family this July. It's the first time for me, he is going back after his last visit almost 8yrs ago. He came over in to the US as a rafter in 1994. He has been sending money to his family to help them live ever since then. I can't wait to go & meet my in-laws. Wish me luck !!! |

If it was a choice between Cuba and nothing then I'd go to Cuba. But otherwise some things need to change before I'd go back. It’s an interesting place and I’m glad I’ve had the chance to see it.
Cubans are second class citizens in there own country. There's two sets of everything from stores, buses, restaurants, hotels, ferries, everything. One set for tourists (or a select group of Cubans that have access to foreign currency) and one set for Cubans. And there is a dramatic difference between the two. It's been compared to apartheid. I was standing in the square in Cienfuegos and watched some workmen renovating a beautiful colonial hotel; I asked a Cuban who was also there if the hotel would be for tourists or for Cubans. He answered "In Cuba nothing is for Cubans". Pretty much sums it up.
I suspect you are asking this to measure support for the US embargo. If that’s the case then even though I’m not a big fan of Cuba I disagree with the US embargo. It’s wrong, it hurts people and it’s clearly totally ineffective. You got to get off the resort to see the real Cuba. That can get a little depressing. |

Been there 4 times.
I agree with previous answer , it is VERY SAFE , alot of uninformed people who answer think because Fidel Castro is in power and it is a Comunist country that it is Dangerous.
I traveled during Clinton years , now with Bush I'm hesitant of traveling because of the bureaucracy , I would go there in a heartbeat if the travel restrictions were less lenient or lifted.
It is a beautiful country. |

I'm Canadian and Canadians vacation in Cuba all the time in the winter months. I've never been there myself, but my folks just got back from a 2 week vacation there and they liked it a lot. They went with my aunt & uncle and some of my cousins who go to the same resort every year. They bring used kids clothes for the kids and my uncle brought tools to one of the local men that he's become friends with. I will probably go one of these winters. I don't see much difference in vacationing there than any other Carribean country.
As far as I know, some US citizens manage to get over there for vacation as well. I'm not sure how they circumvent the laws/system to do this, but they do. |

In a heart beat, I vacationed there last August, it is gorgeous and the people are absolutely amazing! Even met a Cuban friend that we keep in touch with through letters and phone calls. I have travelled to a lot of places (Beijing, Thailand, Hong Kong, Greece, & Turkey, but none of these places touched my heart the way Cuba did)
The people make Cuba, we stayed in Varadaro and the beach is breathtaking. The sand white, white, white, and the water a gorgeous blue, you can see your feet when you are out to your chest in the sea. WONDERFUL. |

It's actually not illegal for Americans to travel to Cuba, it's just illegal for them to spend money there, (which obviously defeats the purpose) I see that some people say that they will go when it is "safer", but it's the most safest now. Tourism is their lifeline. It is a "Communist " state. How will it be "safer" when there is no fear and the Americans take over. It will be as "safe" the US (which boasts the greatest murder rate, crime rate, violent crime rate etc. etc.) Don't just hate on a country because of what your government "tells" you. I have been to the Caribbean many times, and the safest place is by far Cuba. |

After a few years of letting Americans in - I would. I have Canadian friends who have been and say it is lovely.
Closest tropical island we can go to.
I'd just want to insure we are safe. |
