1st Cruise - Question about prepaid tipping?

I'm going on a Carnival Cruise, and they offer to allow you to prepay your tips ($10/day). I think that would be great, but does that $10 really cover everything? Or will I still have people with their hand held out for bags, room service, drinks, and god knows what. Should I plan on carrying a roll of dollar bills?

If you go for the prepaid option, that's you finished with tipping on the ship for the duration of the cruise.
You can, of course, tip someone who has given you exceptional service, if you wish, to show your appreciation of their efforts.
Prepaid gratuities are, per person, per cabin.

This covers everything - meaning your room steward and waiters.
As for drinks, every time you order a drink there are automatic 15% service charged added to the drink.
You don't need to take a roll of dollar bills with you, however, if you want to give someone something in addition, that is fine to. On most cruise lines you can have extra tip added to your bill as well - so no need to go with a bundle of cash for tips.

Tips are up to you. I always find it best to tip the people who clean my cabin. You are charges for drinks with the tip added on. If you eat in the same restaurant with the same server you may want to tip them too. You also check your daily charges either on the TV in your cabin or at the front desk. You can adjust the tips if you wish.

I've read a few of the other answers
'Prepaid tipping is wonderful if you want bad service!
I've been on cruises where it was used and the service was terrible!!!!
I will not go on any other cruises with prepaid tipping. I will tip over the suggested amounts, occasionally, but the staff has to be at least polite.

Looking 4nice place 2livein SD
I would expect it to cover every thing, why not check with the cruise line or the agent to make doublely sure? There must be a phone number somewhere on your booking form.

That covers everything including the persons who clean your deck chairs for you, the waiters who serve you, the guys who clean up after you, etc. The only thing that doesn't cover is the tip for the maitre'd. When we went on our cruise, we were handed out envelopes supposedly for the maitre'd on the last night during dinner. Since our Thai waiter and his assistant were also very nice to us all throughout the sitdown dinners, we also gave them separate tips even if they were already entitled to some of that $10/day/person prepaid tip. If you were waited on to your satisfaction, it would be nice to give out some extra dollars for those who made your cruise nice. You will feel good about it. I know we did. Enjoy your cruise!

As far as I'm concerned, that covers everything, including the person who cleans your room to the waiters. It does not include alcoholic beverages, but they take that out anyways. Sometimes I give the bus driver who takes me to the port or on shore excursions a tip too, plus the tour guide. Other then that, you are done. BTW if you have a complaint at the end of your cruise or if you want to tip more, then just go to the pursers desk and talk to them. They can add or subtract tips as you choose.
