Oh great choices. For me personally, I would go with the first one. I've never been to St Kitts so that sounds new and cool.
San Juan I did not care for. You are right in the middle of downtown and there is so little to see or do there. You have to leave the city to enjoy anything.
St Thomas is an absolutely gorgeous place. I've been there several times and honestly could never get tired of it. I could go there every cruise and see something different every single time.
St Maarten is on both so you can read reviews on that on cruisecritic. It's very small so you really can see most of it in a day. Since I have been there before, I don't particularly care if I go back or not.
St Lucia is absolutely gorgeous. Probably the most gorgeous island. You are right near Castries where all the shopping is. The Drive-In Volcano is a must see. The Diamond Waterfall is cool but so is the amazing snorkeling there. St Lucia is where one of my friends spent their honeymoon and I can definitely see spending a whole week there. So much to do and see.
Since they are both Carnival, which ships are they? Personally I love the Fantasy class of ships but a lot of people love the newest ship--whichever is newer is better. What ship did you go on last time? Go on a different class of ships than you did before so you can compare.
But comparing St Lucia/St Kitts vs San Juan/St Thomas is tough. What do you like to do? St Lucia and St Thomas are very active. Lots to see and do, very fast paced places. St Kitts is a lot of historic stuff from cruise critic but very natural, not very touristy yet. Little to do. San Juan...well I think you have to do a shore excursion there or you will be bored.
But that means they each have one with very little to do and one with a lot to do.

Read the reviews of both ships and read what people said they did in the ports of call. The newer ship (or newer renovated ship) should get an extra point in it's column. The sister ship of the one you already went on, should get a minus. You want to see a new and different ship. Read over the shore excursions offered and see if any of them particularly interest you. If one of them completely blows your mind that might be a fabulous idea on which one to pick. Shore excursions should put a couple extra points in one column.
Honestly I think those are amazing cruises. I don't think you can go wrong and I LOVE CARNIVAL! |

No matter where you go, you'll find something to love.
St. Lucia and St. Kitts are more off the beaten path, meaning their culture isn't as spoiled by tourism. It's a more exotic feel and you get to feel more of the native culture. If you're a shopper, don't expect to find gallerias or upscale shopping centers on these islands.
Puerto Rico (San Juan), St. Thomas, and St. Maarten, you get more of the tourists' Caribbean. Shopping centers, gallerias, and museums are the attractions on these islands. And if you're still a cultural person, there are still things to see and do, here. Historic castles, museums, and forts are some attractions, here (El Morro and San Cristobal forts in San Juan are must-sees!).
I have been to St. Lucia, San Juan, and St. Thomas, so I have had the pleasure of having a taste of both styles, and no matter where you go, you will enjoy it! |

There is more to see and do in your second set of ports. There is nothing really fantastic about St. Lucia or St. Kitts except very nice beaches. San Juan and St. Thomas both have a lot to see and do. If you would like more information, check out my website shown below. |

I just went on Princess from San Juan to St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, Tortola.
It was awesome! Any of those island would be great! St. Thomas is kind of commercial (lots of shopping/jewelry). St. Lucia is a little rough around the edges, but has amazing beaches. San Juan has a nice old town. Very pretty/american. |

I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you try the 7 day cruise with carnival, it leaves San Juan and travels to St. Lucia, Dominica, Barbados, St. Thomas, St, Kitts and Antigua. I did this cruise last year and it was so much fun. All the islands have their own little flair, so no matter which one you go on you'll enjoy. If I had to chose from the two you listed I probably would go on the one with St. Thomas. It is a beautiful, friendly island with a lot of sight seeing and some great shopping deals. I put a link to the carnival cruise that I mentioned above. The thing that is nice about that trip is that you see the commercial islands like St. Thomas then you see the nature islands like Dominica where they filmed some of the Pirates of the Caribbean. Have fun, keep traveling! |
