I want to take a trip to Austrailia. I want to leave from Florida. I am willing to drive to California and leave from there. I am scarred of flying so I guess I need a boat. Do I have to book a cruise? Can I just pay for port on a ship? How can I arrange travel? PLEASE HELP! |

You must be nuts. It takes 18 hours by plane to get there. I can't even imagine how long it would take by a boat. Plus it would be quite pricey. Are you sure you want to go there? |

Yes, it is possible to book a segment of a world cruise by one of the cruise lines, from CA to Australia, but its not going to be a direct cruise and you will probably spend at least the time and money mentioned in the other answers. You can then take a cruise that will stop in several Australian ports, but then the only return will be possibly with another ship going the opposite direction. These dates will have to be close because these cruises generally only occur between Jan - Apr.
Keep in mind Australia is as large as the US so if you're planning to get around to a lot of places by driving instead of flying you'll have to plan your trip so that you can still make it on board a ship going back to LA.
You can't just walk up at the port and book a cruise. They just don't do that anymore (security). You can arrange travel w/ an agent, but you might want to check into some freighter companies that would also take passengers. OK cabins and food, but don't expect shows and casinos on board. It will still be a long trip as far as number of days.
I also recommend just getting on a plane and flying. The odds are so much better than driving and you'll get there so much faster than on a ship. Don't know why you're scared of flying. Have you ever flown before or did you have a bad experience? Look at how many people fly everyday. Its like taking a bus! You might want to contact someone who can help you overcome your fear of flying. It would make your life so much easier. |

You'll need a lot of time, a lot of stamina, and a lot of cash to travel to Australia by boat.
The trip takes between 23 and 42 days one way and cost between US $81-108 per person per day. |

Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an automobile accident are 1 in 5000. Statistically, you are at far greater risk driving to the airport than getting on an airplane. However, the perception is that you have more control over your fate when you are in your car than as a passenger traveling on an airplane. Experience shows otherwise, considering that over 50,000 people are killed on the highways every year. Media coverage would suggest that airline crashes happen every day. Studies have shown one would have to fly once a day every day for over 15,000 years in order to statistically be involved in an aircraft accident"
Flying is very very safe. Don’t worry about terrorists that is the least likely thing to go wrong on a commercial flight in the US these days. Flying in the United States is very safe, there has not been a major airline crash in the US since November of 2001! That is a long time for no major crashes and only on fatality in the last seven years for the Major Airlines in the US.
Even when there is a problem on an airplane, if an engine fails on takeoff or an engine fire etc.. 99% of the time the plane lands safely. Planes these days are amazing piece of technology and the pilots are trained better than ever. If you not afraid to drive in a car you should not be afraid to fly in a plane.
Just sit back relax and try to enjoy the flight. Its one of the safest things you can do much safer than driving a car, walking down the street, or even sleeping in your house. More people have died on North American highways in the year 2006 than the amount of people who have died in powered flight aviation whole 104 year history!
Also the best way to completely get over your fears is go to you local General aviation airport and take flying lessons! Once you fly in a small airplane a few times and learn that airplanes fly and that’s all they do you will be much more confident with flying on commercial planes. You will learn a lot with a few flying lessons. I could even teach you a lot by just showing you my Microsoft Flight Simulator. Flying is a great experience, once you get used to it and learn what makes airplanes fly etc.. your fears go away trust me, I used to be a little bit scared to fly too. Now I LOVE it.
Just remember this, your not afraid to drive in a car are you? Well think about this. Cars are made to crash wells planes are not. Why? Because cars crash and planes don’t, they just like to fly. |

Dont go to Austrailia.....trust me on this one....if your that afraid of flying it isnt worth your health. Another thing driving is always a risk especially across the country...it would take you at least 40-45 hrs(driving time doin 80 plus miles her hour with as few stops as possible) just to get to California...that means you would have to stay the night someplace twice most likely ....ouch. Then to have to fly after that....thats no good. Just dont bother going....a boat across the ocean would be insane becuse a tital wave or bad storm could hit at anytime. Either take something that will make you sleep very well while you fly or never make the trip |
