Am I crazy for booking a cruise during hurricane season?

We are going to the western Caribbean Sept. 14-Sept. 19. Anyone been during that time?

sassy has no clue what shes talking about. you cant sue for acts of nature. actually many people recommend cruising during hurricane season because of the low fares and fewer crowds. There is the occasional storm but the navigation equipment on these ships is state of the art. It is very unlikely anything will happen.

Happy Cruising.

P.S. Some people find a thrill in cruising in rough weather, It's rather exciting. =D

Personally, i've never been. But twice i have been on a cruise ship when there were about 20 foot swells, and it is not a good feeling, i felt a bit sick, and i have never had felt the slightest bit of nausea of a ship prior to that experience. Especially when you are the upper decks, which you will be spending most of the time on unless you are in the lower levels on the ship (i.e. levels 4,5,6). I don't know how often hurricanes happen, but if you hit a stormy patch or even a hurricane, i promise you that you will feel so sick (or even kind of loopy from the rocking) in your life (except if you have a bad stomach bug/flu/chicken pox)

Hope i helped!

The first cruise we went on was during the 9-11-01 attack...I booked this during hurricane season taking a chance..we did get the insurance just in case the cruise was cancelled...we didn't have to us it though..we went on our cruise and had a wonderful time...make sure you take dramamine and any other med you may think you might need...I started taking my dramamine before I got on the ship and I didn't have any problems at all...the lower decks are better for you as far as the movement of the ship is concerned..they also told me that the inside cabins are better for that reason also...you've already booked so don't stress about it..just watch the weather...the cruise line won't put you in any un-necessary danger...have a great time !!!

I live in the Caribbean - year round - and I haven't blown away yet!

There is enough technology available to provide ample warning, for you to be steered clear. Also, remember that although we can see hurricanes on the map for days at a time, they pass over specific points relatively quickly. If the cruise lines thought it wasn't safe, they would not operate for the season.

Enjoy the cruise!

For the past 4 years we have booked cruises thru hurricane season, and NEVER had any problems. not even alot of rain. If it looks like there is going to be a storm (which the cruise line has special weather trackers for) they will cancel the cruise, and give you a option to take the cruise at a different time or get your money back.

personally....i wouldnt worry about it you should be fine.
if your worried about safety, the cruise ship would know about a hurricane or bad storm DAYS before, so they can go back to port or sail to another area. they are VERY safe about it. and if there is a cancellation of the cruise, which doesnt happen often, you still can get money back or take it at a different time. soo......it will be fine either way.

Hurricane season is almost 1/2 the year. Cruise boats can change their course to divert a hurricane. Don't worry about it unless it is September 12th and there is a hurricane brewing.

The ship would divert around any problem. You might not get to one/some islands depending on the storm situation!

You can hit problems anywhere. We could not moor at the Big Island in Hawaii as sea swell was breaking over the ports breakwater!
Most annoyed as the highlight of the trip was to visit this island to go and see the lava flows!

I don't think so. They can always steer you away from the storm. Just make sure you get the trip insurance they offer...otherwise you could be screwed. They could cancel the trip and you wouldn't get your money back.
