Any ideas on a really cheap cruise for a family of 6? |
We live in Baltimore so we'd like to leave from here to avoid airfare and all the hassle. I have 4 children ages 10 to 9 months, so I would hope its possible. I know the last minute cruises can be really cheap but I've never been on a cruise before, don't know much about them, and don't want to get stuck paying for a bunch of extras just because the price of the cruise looks cheap. If the cruise is before summer break, it would have to be a shorter cruise because of school (maybe 4 or 5 days)...if it is in the summer, a week would be great. And, it really doesnt matter exactly where we go but a stop or two at an island would be really nice. Mainly we want to do this just because of the experience! |

As somebody from your area, Norwegian & Royal Caribbean sail out of Baltimore for 5 day cruises to Bermuda. Starting this summer Carnival will be going out of Baltimore for 7 day cruises to the Caribbean. Carnival is great for younger folks. You will probably have to get 2 cabins and they charge per person. I don't know if they charge for a 10 month old. Go to Carnival's website for prices, questions and call them. Also I don't know whether the passport policy goes into effect this summer. Ask Carnival they will tell you everything you need to know. |

I would start by looking at http://www.vacationstogo.com. It has a search engine that lets you select your date range, number of days, port of departure, destination(s), etc., and shows you the available cruises with discount pricing. You can sort the list by price to see the lowest prices available for your criteria. Once you have some specific cruises in mind you can do some more research on them. |

Royal Carribean cruises leaves from Baltimore. And they have a ton of amazing deals right now on cruises. I would suggest doing a excursion during the cruise too. That is a really good experience.

Go through that, not through a travel agent. They are much more expensive than finding a great deal for yourself. |

Most cruise ships do not allow children under the age of 2 on their ships. NCL does not. We had thought about taking our granddaughters on a cruise with their parents (our children) but were told that the children (18 months each) were too young and would not be allowed.
However, you may want to try a Disney Cruise. Not sure of the age requirements or restrictions but you can check with them. It will not fulfill your ability to leave out of Baltimore though.
Also, check with the Baltimore Bureau of Travel and Tourism and see what cruises leave out of those ports. Not only will they list the cruise lines but also the itineries and ports.
Good luck and have fun. |

Well - good news and bad news. Good news is that they do have several summer cruises out of Baltimore - usually to Bermuda or the Northeast - Royal Caribbean I believe, however your issue is going to be a cruise for 6 - the far majority of staterooms are geared for 2 people with about 5% on board being able to accomodate 4 - however with 6 you would have to go with a family suite which are exceptionally limited. With limited availability comes higher prices. It may be more cost effective to go with 2 rooms than one family suite but I am not sure if adjoining rooms are available.
Before you do anything else, check around on 6 person suites before you make up your mind on cruising.. |
