No matter how warm the climate/weather, bring a windbreaker type of parka. At night, on deck, it can get chilly in the wind.Stuff some saltine crackers in your carryon....is the sea is rough, sometimes the stabilizers don't stop enough motion. Stay up on deck and do not eat anything except the crackers until you hit calm water. I have spent a lifetime at sea...in both private and public cruisers, and it is the best advice.
Bring formal attire if you wish to attend the Captain's dining. You can choose from so many diffrent activities that everything from your swim gear to really dressy clothing is needed. Do not go exploring at the different ports in sandals. Wear sneakers or comfortable protected footwear. A really good sun hat is a must...and, ofcourse protective sun glasses. An insect repellant is a must (misquitoes really are dangerous...especially in Mexico or the Carribean).
Sunblock, your meds, etc. Drink only bottled water from the time you board ship and wherever you visit in ports.
They will tell you the water is safe. It is not. The most important thing to bring is your joy to be in for a fantastic adventure!!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

The two things I always tell people to take with them are an extension cord and extra coathangers. You will most likely need them and you can't get them once you are on the ship!

Happy Sails!

Dramamine...non drowsy formula...even if you think you won't be sea sick ...why take the chance?

Bring shorts and bathing suits of course. For dinners you will need dockers and a shirt with a coller (or female equ). Also there is 1 formal night on a 5 day cruise, a suit or a sports coat should be fine. No real need to bring jeans since you cannot wear them in the main dining room. You may also want to bring a 6 pack or 2 of coke. You are not allowed to bring your own alcohol although plenty of people sneak it aboard. However if they find it, they will take it away. Bring extra tipping money. Esp alot of ones and 5s. As others have mentioned, bring something for sea sickness. Also, alot of ships do not have hair dryers or have very weak ones, you will probably want to bring your own.

dramamine and a bottle or two of alcohol. it's expensive on the boat and it's good for pre-dinner drinks in the room while getting ready. you can get free juices on board or buy sodas to mix it with. make sure you wrap it well in your bag, and no, they don't check bags for it at the boat. your bags must be locked (at least for carnival)

A cruise ship is a floating hotel! Meals and entertainment are included. Alcoholic drinks and soda pop are extra cost. You must take your personal toilet item and clothes. The ship's ports of call and the climates will determine the type of clothing. Some cruise lines have a dress code. You need to check with the cruise ship representative. Of course, you will need a credit card and /or cash to pay for extras. Some cruise lines automatically add daily tips to your account. I recommend that you go to www.cruisecritc.com and do some research.

To be on the safe side, you might want to take a suit or a sport jacket/slacks combo with a shirt and tie. A lot of the cruise lines have upscale restaurants that are by reservation only that have dress codes, and some cruise lines have special meals that have more "dressy" requirements than the standard Hawaiian shirt and shorts. Also, if you think you may have any problems whatsoever with sea-sickness, take some Dramamine with you.
