Singlet |
Any recommendations for cruises specifically for over 40 singles (older, but not old singles)? |
Some of my friends and I would just like to take short cruises and trips that are geared for older, mature singles. Older doesn't mean old! Mid 40's is mature, but certainly not old, and we don't want to be stuck on a cruise with a bunch of "kids" or "senior citizens" but would prefer a clientele composed of our own age group. We live in NYC and love to party, dance, drink, swim and soak up the sun's rays, sports, etc., but we're committed to not doing so with "kids" or "senior citizens." We've researched only a few singles cruises and found their pictorials very disappointing in that the clientele may be single, but obviously too young or too old. |

I agree with the other answer, a travel agent that specializes in cruises will really help.
I would definitely stay away from Carnival and Disney. Both are popular for families and younger people. While adults still enjoy both lines, you will want to avoid them if you don't want kids on board.
Royal Caribbean is going to have a slightly older crowd than Disney and Carnival, but still will have quite a few families on board. But, I believe this will be a line that could possibly work for you.
Princess is going start to go a little over your age range. It is a little more expensive and little more classy than the other three lines I mentioned. I would say the average age is around 40 or 50, so as far as age this may be a good line for you. However, if you are really wanting to party, I don't know how much you would enjoy this particular line.
Norweigan may also be an option. I think they would have an average age of around 40 on board. Not too many kids, adults not too old, etc. so this may be a line to consider as well.
The best thing to do is look for lines that have the fewest children's activities. These will be the lines with the fewest kids on board. Also, try going during the school year, this way most kids will still be in school and fewer will be on board.
Finally, I recommend look at http://www.cruisecritic.com for lots of reviews on different lines as well as boats. They also have a great message board where you can chat with other people about cruises.
Hope this helps! |

Here's 3 things to consider; cruise line, date, and destination. The cruise lines that you want to stay away from are Carnival and Disney. Disney is mainly for kids, and plenty of them. Carnival is the fun party cruise line, mainly young folks, 20 to 35 age group, first time cruisers, who are newly weds or just out to party, party , party.
All of the other cruise lines will give you a pleasant experience. I have been on at least a dozen cruises after age 50 and they all had entertainment and options for people over 40. I recommend Royal Caribbean, NCL, Celebrity, or Princess. Another thing that determines the atmosphere is the itinerary and time of the year. The older floks, like me (over 60) tend to go cruising when prices are a bit lower, usually outside the summer vacation schedule. Also cruises to places like the Mediterranian, Baltic, Alaska, PAnama, which are more geared to visiting historical and touristy places have more older people. Caribbean cruises, on the other hand, generally have the people who want to party, swim, go to the beach, do booze boat rides, etc. SO destinations is as important as cruise line. |

Cunard. Theyre a Brittish company that goes all around the world. Very classy, not many kids, and the service is great. Food is outrageous. A little pricy though. I am not familiar with any specificlly for singles but every ship has one or two nights dedicated to it. |

I'm in my late 30's and my husband is in his 40's.
Here's my best suggestion. Find a travel agent or go to auto club for this. They can recommend you cruise lines which cater to adults.
Carnival cruises and the Disney cruise lines are geared toward families.
Royal Carribean cruise, Princess Cruises, Holland American, and those companies cater to adults.
Since you live in NYC, why not fly down to Florida and take advantage of the Carribean cruises? Or, my mom did the Alaskan cruise and loved it.
Again, check out a travel agent who specializes in cruising. They can tell you the best one for your friends. |

Any cruise will be fun for your ages. It is a mixture on all ships,, but I think that the older "senior citizens" will go to places like Alaska, mediterrian,, not to beach resort ports . The average age for cruise goers are in there 40's and the ships are soo large,,that you don't really see the kids because they are in a camp most of the time, and are being entertained, The college students, are all grouped together in the disco..where there age group will hang out.
If u don't want children, ( i have taken mine since they were 6 yrs old.. and I promise you ,,you won't notice the children,,as much as the college kids,,some try to get out of hand,,but the cruise secruity will send them to there room,,,, and if they are unruly again,,some have been banned to there staterooms,,,.for the duration of the cruise,,,from what i have heard,,not sure how they can do that..but if u like to dance, drink and etc..it sounds like u will be fine...if it bothers you///then have a few more...you will join right in..all ages do in fact.. .
But~ if u want to avoid "kids",, then book it when they are in school.. )
Bon Voyage, |

A lot depends on the time of year you are able to cruise. If its a school vacation period, people will be taking their kids. Taking them and then ignoring them in many cases.
My wife and I (also not old) are booked on NCL Majesty to Bermuda. Checking to see if the cruise had a theme, I found our theme is Crafts for Kids. I hope it runs all day in an out of the way location. I'm picturing the SS Daycamp! Yikes! |
