Anyone afraid to......?

go on a cruise? After all the negative press lately about cruise lines, are any of you afraid to go on one? Or on another one? I'm going on Princess in September, and am a little nervous after hearing about the Crown Princess tipping to the left hand side. I'm going on the Caribbean Princess, a different ship, but it is still Princess Cruise lines, and the boats are almost identical in size. However, maybe after this recent incident Princess will be the safest cruise line to travel on??? What do you think?

It's normal to be worried after hearing all the news lately. But I have been on a lot of cruises and they do everything they can to keep you safe.

From what I heard there was no mechanical error on the ship, the JR. Captain was left to watch the ship while the captain went to eat. When he was watching he monitors and everything, he thought the autopilot was going the wrong way or something. He over corrected the ship, causing it to list.

If you consider how long people have been cruising, the track record is pretty good. There are a few things that has happened in the past, but that is to be expected with anything. No matter where you go or what you do, there is a risk that something may happen, even just staying at home.

Don't worry yourself too much. Cruising is a blast, you are going to have a wonderful, safe time. Enjoy the planning and try not too make yourself too upset about what the news reports.

I've been on many, many cruises in the past and I have a lot more planned. I have no intentions of ever canceling my cruises and especially based on the reports that have been on the news. You have to think about all the successful cruises!

The ship that tipped over was the Princess Lines newest ship. I've sailed on Princess several times and had no problems whatsoever. Think about it. Have you heard of something like this happening before? Don't worry about something that might happen. ANYTHING might happen. That's also true if you stay at home. Go....Live....CRUISE!!!

Stop worrying and have fun! You're more likely to get injured driving to the grocery store tomorrow! Life is full of danger and we just have to accept that and keep on living.

the princess ships have always been safe and the one that crashed was a new ship that was on its first cruise. so theres nothing to worry about except having fun! so go and have a great time.

I think cruise travel is some of the safest travel there is. All of the cruise lines put a lot into safety. The recent incident with Princess and the one last year with Norwegian were freak accidents. The last one was determined to be operator error. The auto pilot was steering the ship properly and a crew member, second in command, over rode the auto pilot and caused the accident. He was probably fired.

I have been on a dozen cruises and have two more booked for this year and have no apprehensions at all.

Just think of how many ships have made cruises since the last time there was a problem . It's like flying, a plane goes down so everybody wonders if it's safe. The tens of thousands of flights that had no trouble are forgotten.
The chance of cruise ship injuries are a very tiny fraction of the chance of getting hurt or killed on the highway.

I think that BECAUSE of this recent incident, Princess will probably be the safest line to cruise. You can be they're going to do a very thorough evaluation of the incident and take every precaution to avoid any more. I cruise every year (RCCL) and will not stop. Any incidents on cruise ships are highly publicized. However, when you think about the hundreds of thousands of people on ships every week, the percentage of incidents are probably VERY low.

I think it is normal to be worried, but something like this shouldn't stop you from going on the cruise and enjoying yourself. After what happened, I'm sure Princess cruise lines will be more vigilant about safety. Enjoy!

Not at all. I went on my first cruise last year. A few days after we left Costa Maya Mexico another ship ran into the dock. A few weeks before we left for this summer's cruise to Bermuda a sister ship ran into the reef. My cousin was on the Princess ship that caught fire. I was a bit concerned when the buffet at our pool deck Carribean Night caught fire, but they put it out without problems. Do I worry enough to stop planning next year's Alaska cruise? Not a chance. Cruises are too much fun!

I have been on two cruises and am planning another one. The ships are extremely safe. The Princess ship incident was human error, and I just heard on the news that the crew has been fired. The reason that you hear every little thing about a cruise ship is because they have to report every incident, but you never hear the positive. Think of each cruise line sending out many, many ships each week with no incidents at all. Enjoy your cruise instead of worrying about it.
