Are Americans allowed to work on cruise ships?
...or anyone not from East Asia, Romania, Russia, etc for that matter?
I am an American, I worked on a cruise ship. There was something like 900 crew members on the ship, about 22 of us were from the United States, and there were a total of about 68 countries represented in the crew.
Most of the people from the United States worked in one of the following departments:
Cruise Staff
Sports Staff
Youth Staff
Production Team
Production Show Cast
Spa/Salon
gone!
And why would they Not be allowed? There are many Americans working on cruise ships.
Johan from Sweden
ofc theyre are. But americans will find the salery a bit low if youre not a ship officer.
The only exceptions is people that arent cityzens of its country. Aliens will most likely not be alouded to work on cruise ships. Johan.

Mostly you see American entertainers. The reason you do not see Americans as waiters or service people is because of our labor laws here. On a cruise ship, you may work 12 to 15 hours straight with no days off for like a month. They may get real good pay, but that is why they usually don't hire Americans. There is one cruise company that does hire Americans, but from what I have read, the service is terrible.

My cousin works on a Celebrity ship sailing the Mediterranean but as others have posted she is a entertainer.
