Yes you can wear anything during the day onboard a ship other than at dinner...there are no jeans allowed in the dining room, unless you choose to eat dinner at the buffet...then there is no dress code |

Would you wear jeans to a fancy restaurant in your hometown? Probably not unless you live in a double-wide.
Wear nice casual clothing but leave the jeans at home. Formal night does require something very nice. |

You can wear jeans when you go on to port. Or, if its just casual night on board, you can sometimes wear them to dinner, but not usually. Like, if you go on carnival, you can never wear jeans to dinner. If you go on Norwegian, you can wear them any nite but formal nites. |

If you have 1 nice outfit it would be good to take! They take a lot of nice photos and at the captain's dinner everyone looks there best. Plus sometimes it is nice to get gussied up! |

Usually at dinner they gently suggest that you wear slacks or a dress for dinner. but I think they would not refuse to serve you at dinner just the same. Look at cruisecritic.com for more info. |

and depending on the line, even on formal nights, on some they are optional... some people will frown, but you wont be stoped... |
