Usually yes. Often they are emptied out each night and refilled fresh each morning. Also emptied out in any kind of storm.

Pamela G
Yes they are. And they drain them at night. It really isn't bad. We couldn't tell the difference unless we went under the water. I loved the pools and the water slide. Have a great trip!

trustnoonekmc
Carnival and Royal Carribbean both have Salt Water pools. Also, all of the whirlpools/hot tubs on Carnival are also salt water, with the exception of the whirlpools in/around the gym.

Princess has freshwater pools, and I think Disney might also, but I'm not sure.

Be sure to check cruisecritic.com for more great cruising information.

Not all cruise lines use salt water. You should check with the respective cruise line's website or contact them directly to confirm.

Good Luck

Missy
Yes, Carnival does use the salt water, and like the previous answerers said, they dump the water at night and refill the next day....
