My two cents

Are there any cheap rates on single cabin cruises?

And is there a such thing as a single cabin. I was thinking of going on a cruise alone but i was hoping that i would not have to pay for double occupancy. or at least get a good discount. please give all web sites you know of.

I went on my first cruise in March. The cruise line was Costa, and they do not offer a pairing service for single travelers. I worked with a travel agent, and I asked her to keep me in mind if she heard of any other single women going on this particular cruise, since I could not afford to pay double fare. To my great surprise, she called me about a month before the cruise, and said that "they" (the cruise line?) were allowing her to sell me an inside cabin at the single rate...no single supplement! Of course, I accepted. I would have preferred a balcony, but for that rate I could not complain. I ate dinner at a table with another single woman who DID pay double fare. I did not tell her about my good luck. If you are not interested in being paired up, work with a cruise travel agent, and they might be able to get you a deal like they did for me.

Since 9-11 you can not just show up at the port anymore. Call the cruiselines and ask what the single supplement is. Some lines only charge 50% more than one person. Or see if someone you like would like to go with you.

you can get a cabin for yourself, but they usually charge for double occupancy, but you can still get some good deals.as far as websites try http://www.cruiseasy.joystar.com

NCL released some single fares recently.
also, Carnival & RCCL offers them once and a while.

No such thing as a single cabin on a cruise ship. If I was single and didn't have a ton of money, then I would look for a cabin mate. You could advertise for one or ask any of your friends if they want to go. All cabins are for double occupancy. I have seen a few wealthy single people going on a cruise. They just pay the single rate which is the same rate 2 people would pay. ps, your first answer by steph p is wrong. You can not get on a ship the day it sails due to new homeland security rules. The ship must present to homeland security a week before the cruise a passenger list.

Well there are many ways that you can get a discount easily.
And since you are traveling alone, I think this one in particular way will be best:
Look for the cruise that you'd like to travel on.
Dont purchase anything til the day of the cruise.
Plan your trip as if you bought the cabin in advance and go to the port and purchase your cabin there.
Since they are anxious to sell out all their cabins, they will give you a good discount. But the only unfortunate thing is that you have to risk getting there and not having any cabins available for you. But this would only happen on holidays or summer (when school is out).
So I would recommend going during a time that all the rates are at their lowest but get to the port as early as possible to reserve yourself a cabin.

And about a one person cabin, there are cabins that have one king/queen bed. That can count as a one person cabin, but sometimes couples get a cabin like that.
Either way, you wont have to worry about that because you can always request it when you go to the port to reserve a cabin for yourself.
