They all offer alittle something different and try their bet to offer things foe everyone. Also each person expectation are different. Some go just for the ship or ports of call or just to get away. Most have their favorite line. Alot also depends on your destination. I have sailed with;
Holland, Norwegian & Princess and never had a complaint. The best advice I can give you is after your research find the one that fits your needs & go with it.

Go to a bookshop like W. H. Smiths - travel section.
Have a sneaky read of a Berlitz Travel book called "Ocean Cruising & Cruise Ships 2009" by Douglas Ward.
You may find a copy in your local library, but it's expensive to buy (£20)
Douglas Ward is reckoned to be the leading expert on cruise travel.
In his annual book he lists every cruise line and every ship. He awards points for the things they do best and is scathing about things they don't do well.
He tells you which ship is best suited for which person - young people, old people, people who like peace and quiet, people who like a lot of noisy happenings, people who like sports activities on board, people who enjoy lectures. He rates the food and service.
It's 650+ pages well worth consulting if you are planning a cruise.

I have been on
Royal Caribbean- 1 time(Majesty Of The Seas)
Holland America- 1 time (ms Ryndam)
Carnival- Three times (Legend, Glory, and going on the Glory again

My best choice is CARNIVAL! Royal Caribbean is a good cruise line because it has more to do like a basketball court (1 hoop) and a rock climbing wall. Royal Caribbean is similar to Carnival to the dining room dress code. But in my opinion the food on the Carnival is a little better and Carnival has more of a young adult night life (dance club on ship with alcohol bar), and a teen club (no alcohol but fun for the teens. Carnival also has a program that you can let your young son or daughter called camp carnival which they do fun kid activities and have fun all day, and you don't get them back until night time (gives the adults some alone time, and trust me the little ones are watched all day by the crew at camp carnival).some of the Carnival ships have multiple water slides which is fun for the kids, teens, and adults. Also Carnival has a sport deck with put put golf (a few holes) and it depends which Carnival ship you choose, each one has something different. Carnival Glory is my favorite ship. Holland America is more formal on the formal nights (tuxedo, button up shirt and tie). But Holland America also has a basketball court and practice tennis court on the ship I wen't on. Carnival is a little more easy in the day time it is all casual and on the formal nights (nice button up shirt and tie is all you need). The regular dining room nights all you need is a button up collar shirt and slacks, dress for women. So I would pick Carnival. If you have any other questions about any of the ships, e-mail me anytime at chadmichaeldunkle@yahoo.com

P&O is British-orientated, Royal Caribbean is American-orientated. Which do you like least, beer-swilling grumbling English or loud-mouthed sports-bar-inhabiting Americans?
