To pick one cruise ship to be the best in the world is a tough challenge since certain cruise lines cater to certain types of travellers so to those travellers, it maybe the best in the world to them.
Having said that, if you are looking for top of the line class, luxury, elegance and just plain expensive as hell, would be Crystal Cruises. Mostly crusing around the Mediterranean sea ports, it is the top of the line luxury. Of course you will find more elderly crowded in these ships and not so much 20s and 30 somethings partying on the pool deck.
It has it's price. A 7 day cruise on the Crystal Serenity in June starts at $4400 for Balcony and $8400 for Suite. It's a small ship and it does NOT have inside cabins, only Balcony and Suites. They will cater to your every needs with white glove and tuxedo service and everything, even alcohol, is included with the price tag. if you think being treated like Kings and Queens on your vacation is the best then this is it. It will be nothing like you've ever experienced on the major cruise lines such as Carnival or Royal Caribbean.. which makes money off the sheer number of passengers.
These small ships only carry about 500 passengers to 300 crew members so you will not have problem getting pampered attention. Plus these small ships can go in to ports where larger cruise lines can't, so you will find more interesting cruise itineraries...
Other runners up for this to me are Radisson SevenSeas cruise line and Seabourn. All at the same level of luxury and elegance.
I personally can't afford this type of luxury so I stick to Royal Caribbean and Princess cruiselines... so to me and my budget they are the BEST in the world.

The Freedom of the Seas
The Liberty of the Seas
and the newest, sailing next month, the Independence of the Seas
They are incredible ships with tons of activities and adventures! |
