Best place on a cruise ship? sea sick? |
I'm planning a cruise and they've given me an option of which stateroom i'd like. I was wondering if there is a difference in motion between forward or aft. i know everyone's going to say i'm not going to get sick, but i'll be fine all day, but when i lay down, i feel every wave. It doesn't give me much of a problem, but it was worth asking. So any difference, front, back, top , bottom?? |

I went on a cruise and got ridiculously sick... i think it was a combination of heat stroke and motion sickness... it wasn't fun i got sick Wednesday night and i was in my room all day Thursday, i kinda left my room Friday but i didn't get outside and then i went home on Saturday... so you definitely want to try and avoid that :)
I would suggest somewhere in the middle of the ship and probably on the bottom... it's more towards the pivot point so it shouldn't rock as much i wouldn't think. Try for an interior cabin too. and when you sleep make sure you're rocking side to side not head to toe... i was rocking head to toe and i felt sick almost every night. Also, seasickness bands are great. (the elastic bands with the little button on them that you put around your wrists) i wore mine almost all week.
Have fun! |

My suggestion would be to get as close to the middle of the ship as possible. Middle deck and a room somewhere in the middle. You do not want to be towards the back of the ship or the front. If you are in the middle it's more stable. You can also try buying those patches you put behind your ear at a local pharmacy. Those really do work. Also, when I went on my first cruise they told me to eat an apple and drink warm soda when I felt sick. It did seem to help.
Good luck! & have fun! |

As close to the middle of the ship, on the lowest deck possible will have the least motion. |

You want to get a medication from your doctor. I believe it starts with an "M". Anything other than a prescription won't do it.
Get a cabin in the middle of the ship, with a balcony. The fresh air helps with motion sickness, you can see out which helps with decreasing disorientation, and the middle of the ship rocks less. However, the middle rooms do creek more. Just FYI. |

it depends what weather it is. if you get sea sick i would recommend bracelets that help you through any sickness (sea, motion, etc) |

The best place to be on any kind of water vessel when you're sea sick is on deck where you can see the horizon. Anyone who runs a charter boat will tell you that this is the advice they give to all their passengers. The worst place to be is inside where you can't see anything. There's something about being able to see the horizon that allows your brain to adjust to the motion and deal with it better.
BTW - I have found that the actual rocking of the ship isn't as bad as the apparent rocking feeling you get after coming home from a cruise. It can last for days and you swear the ground is moving. You might even find that you almost fall over trying to walk, especially in the dark. It's especially bad when you're in bed, or if your head is tipped back with your eyes closed (like when washing your hair in the shower). |

Try midship lower level -- |

Try to get a room that is anywhere in the middle or higher because the lower you are, the more you will feel the motion. I don't think it really matters if you are in the front or back. Just get whatever room you think would be good for you. Have fun =D |

If you get seasick, you definitely don't want to have an outside room (room with a view, etc.) You want an inside room.
There isn't much difference between the forward and the aft, or starboard and port so really, it doesn't matter that much. If you want to feel the least amount of waves, get your room closer to the bottom of the ship.
Yes...it is a hassle when you want to go on the Lido deck for food. But trust me on this, the bottom is much better when you want to leave for excursions, and debark from the ship. It's much easier than trying to stuff four luggages with 15 other people into an elevator.
So my advice to you. Middle of the cruise and toward the bottom.
Hope you have the best cruise!!
And to reduce any seasickness, I really suggest going somewhere other than the Caribbean Sea. It has choppy waters. Cruise lines also sell sea patches, these patches that stick right behind your ear and are barely noticable. My friend had them, and she thought they were great!
Good luck! |
