We have bought diamonds, sapphires and pearls all at a deep discount on the ships. What is nice is that they also give you a certificate of authenticity and an appraisal (at least NCL does) value for the gems. We are always very careful about what we buy.

On NCL and I would imagine most all the reputable cruise lines, the jewelry shoppes are certified gemologists who know their stuff. But that doesn't mean that you will necessarily get a great deal.

The old cliche is true though. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Yes. It's safe.
My parents always purchase silver and gold on cruise ships and it is perfectly fine. I believe it is also duty free :) Which is a huge plus!

I don't think you should have a problem with it, especially when you're on the well-known ones like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, etc.

Have fun and good luck!

yes definetly, on the last cruise i went i got a tennis bracelet that was appraised at $250 and i got it for under 75$, your best bet is to wait till the last day on the cruise and buy it then, because on top of the fact that all the jewlry is duty free, the last two days or so, all the shops on the ship have huge discounts even up to 75% off. so if your a bargain shopper like i am, check out the pieces you want early, and buy then later on during your trip, you will save so much money! Have fun. Good shopping.

If you are responsible, sure its safe. Theres no tax on them also. My dad bought 1600$ worth of tanzanite on a Norwegian cruise. You have to fill that out on the customs card, and they may ask to see or know what you have purchased.

On my last cruise, personally I bought diamond earrings, a ruby bracelet, and some swarovski crystal. Everything comes with a certificate of authenticity. Some stuff tends to be a bit cheaper because it is duty free. But as other people have said, if it looks too good to be true, it tends to be.

I've never had any problems though.
