Ok. First off, NCL is the best Cruise Line! I just finished a 7 day Exotic Western Caribbean cruise yesterday aboard the beautiful Norwegian Spirit. I traveled to Costa Maya, Mexico; Santo Tomas de Castilla, Guetemala; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico. I had the best time. The Norwegian Spirit and many of the other NCL ships have 13 dining options, beautiful swimming pools, wonderful casinos, and many onboard activities and shows for all ages!
The Food was Amazing! The pool was amazing! There is a teen club at the "Celebrity Disco", which I heard was alot of fun! Trust me, with NCL you cannot go wrong. As of right now, NCL has caribbean cruises starting at $279!!! Great Prices! And also, the FRIENDLIEST STAFF! I hope you choose NCL! I hope I helped you!

Have cruised with Royal Caribbean 4 times. There is something for everyone on their ships and the cruise is all what you make it to be. Relaxing and quiet or even a great party. Plus they have some excellent deals. Check them out! We have a cruise planned with them for Christmas 09

As many have said, all the mid-priced cruise lines will please you (RCCL, NCL, Carnival, Princess). Pick your desired location first, then see which ships each line has to offer going to that destination. The ships can really vary from large, but intimate to giant shopping malls on the sea. Then look at price. On top of the base price you'll have the following to factor in (many of these are optional):
air
hotel
transfers from airport to cruise terminal
gratuities on board
alcohol
soda
shore excursions

Carnival and RCCL will probably make kids happier. Princess and NCL will make the kidless people happier.

Royal Caribean - It's the best. Celebrity is good too.

I agree with Kristina L. Your first cruise is the best and what cruise line you go on doesn't matter Royal Caribbean, Norwegian or Carnival the most important part is the ports you stop at. There are MINOR differences which long time cruisers fall all over. For example: celebrity carries your tray for you when you go to the buffet , on Norwegian there is no SET dinner hour and you don't have to sit at a big table with stranger. You also have several restaurants to choose from (if you want to pay) Royal Caribbean has Ice Skating shows on ships with skating rinks and a rock climbing wall. Carnival has a water slide and outdoor movie theaters. They all sound like silly things to get caught up on. Pick the one that goes where you want to go, for the best price and you will be HAPPY!!!

Definitely go with royal caribbean. They're affordable and they offer lots of activities.

Well....first you have to know what it is you want to do as activities vary between cruise lines and even within the various ships that they have. I have cruised with Royal Caribbean and had an enjoyable time. I found them more of a mid-range price when compared to other lines and the service and quality were quite good. I can recommend them. Remember too that the type of cabin you have will affect the price so take that into consideration when looking at the cruise line and ship.

If you are looking at a mainstream cruise line, you really can't go wrong. You'll find many people tend to romanticize their first cruising experience and will remain loyal to that cruise line. Keep in mind that all the mainstream cruise lines have to compete with one another so you probably won't find drastic differences in the cruise lines. You will find subtle difference. You're best bet is to find a cruise that works within your price bracket and works with any "special interests" you may have.

For instance, if you have kids: Disney would probably be a great option. Carnival, NCL, Royal Caribbean, and Princess all have great kids programs.

If money is a concern: Carnival is the least expensive. It is considered the Walmart of the cruises - but many many people love Carnival. They have a great cruising experience.

If you don't have kids and you'd rather have a more adult crowd and less families: Holland America and Cunard has more of an "over 35" patronage.

In all honesty, if you've never cruised before you'll have a blast regardless of which cruise you take. People begin developing preferences the more they cruise. But you have nothing to compare it to and will probably think the cruise you do go on is the best cruise ever! Because you're going to have a blast. So just find something you can afford and go with it. :)
