Can't go on cruise I already paid $1100.00 for? |
To make a long story short, my husband and I can't go on the cruise that we booked. We booked it through Priceline (it is a Carnival cruise) last Monday and it is supposed to leave on Saturday. I already called Priceline (I booked the cruise through them) and they said no one could give me any of my money back. I have a hard time believing that they couldn't switch our dates to later in the summer. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to either get some (if not most) of my money back or transfer it to a later cruise? I'm guessing we aren't the only ones in this situation. Any and all serious help would be appreciated. |

Your biggest problem is that you are so close to the sailing date, you've tried Priceline and they are probably tied to the deal by Carnival because its so close to the sail date.
Now you've got to go direct to Carnival, but you will need a really good reason for not going, to get any action.
If you bought travel insurance, its exactly the same, you need a really good reason with backing evidence to get any return.
My advice would be to press for a complete refund from Carnival in the first instance and then graciously accept an alternative cruise date or a credit note.
I think that you will be extremely lucky to get your money returned.
Good Luck. |

When you book your cruise through a discount vender like you did, there are usually severe limitations on what you can do. They usually do not allow changes or cancellations. If that was the case, that had to be disclosed in fine prints somewhere. IF that was the case, you already agreed to the contract, and there is nothing you can do about it. (as you gave your consent already) |

You'll have to read the fine print. There are a lot of travel companies that have a no transfer rule in which case you're out of luck. |

Sorry but this is one example of why use a travel agent; also you should always buy insurance, theres nothing you can do really, they will penalize you, you can possibly call carnival and ask that if you can switch it to another sailing date but you probably will still get a penalty but not lose it all. |

Okay, here is the deal. When you are within 7 days of the cruise, Carnival will not allow refunds for any reason. If you changed the sailing date, they will consider it a cancelation.
I have been in the travel business for several years and have encountered this exact situation numberous times.
What you need to do is pick a Carnival cruise that will work for you, and call Priceline back... speak to a service manager if you have to, and have them call Carnival.
Priceline should be able to ask Carnival to make an exception and ask them to waive the penalties. The catch is that they will not give you your money back at all. But if you are willing to rebook right then and there, there is a good chance they will change the sail date/ship and waive the penalties... so it is important that you have an alternative in mind.
Since it is at Carnival's discretion, I can't make any guarantees that Priceline will be able to make this happen, but I have FREQUENTLY been successfull in the past for my clients.
Why have Priceline do it? Two reasons.
#1. Technically Priceline is their client in their eyes, so Carnival most likely will refer you back to them
#2. Priceline books cruises for them all day long. So it is more likely they will bend for them instead of just one pair of travelers.
I hope that helps!! |

Call the corporate office. I have found that the higher up you go, the more likely they are to help. |
