Can an 18 year old drink on a cruise? ?

I'm going to Bermuda on a cruise next week. I'm turning 18 halfway through the cruise and I know the drinking age there is 18, but you need parental permission. But I'm not going with my parents, would I bring a note? lol will they really ask for my parents permission?

Yes. I did the same thing on the Norwegian Dawn 3 years ago.. I turned 18 the 2nd day of the cruise.. I had my parents write me a note and had them call the cruise line. The staff was so friendly and didnt even really care. I was drinking the 1st night of the cruise lol.

I hope ur going on norwegian cuz u will love it. been on MANY cruises.. and Norwegian Dawn is by far the best.

i doubt they would ask for your parents permission, but I don't really know. You could take a note, but I doubt they would accept it, because it could easily be forged. I think the best bet is that you stay sober.

Drinking age on the ships is 21, although Norwegian apparently allows 18 and over people to drink beer/wine with written parental consent. Don't know whether that means the parents have to be on the ship and sign something at the Purser's desk or not.

As someone else said, a fake ID will not work because you use the ship's card as ID/charge card.

BTW - Make sure you check with the cruise line to see whether they require a notarized written consent from your parents for you to board the ship, since you'll be under-age when you board. You don't want to get to the port and then find that you can't sail! Whoever you're sailing with should also have an understanding with your parents regarding who will be responsible for any expenses incurred if for any reason your behavior results in your party being "thrown off" the ship. [It happens - especially when underage persons drink!]

Fake ID will not make any difference at all on board ship, since they look at the official ID card from the cruise line, which is also the only way to pay for a drink on board. Any bartender or waiter who violates minimum drinking age is subject to immediate firing, so they're pretty careful about that.

What the drinking age minimums are depend on the cruise line -- most just keep it simple and make it 21 across the board.

As to drinking on shore, that is up to the jurisdiction you are in. Some places are age 18 and some are 21. Thus, it is possible that you can drink on shore but not on the ship.

I have never encountered the situation of anybody looking for written parental permission to drink and thus know nothing about that.

You shouldn't need parental permission. Since your in Bermuda and the drinking age there is 18. But you might need it considering they don't want you coming home wasted. If you don't need parental permission then don't get too drunk. Nothings worse than getting drunk while on on a vacation. You could miss the ship (if getting off), fall overboard (chances are very slim but you never know),etc.

just drink

thats so funny! i just went on a cruise to Bermuda too! norwegian dream maybe?? lol.
you need a signed note from your parents but your only allowed to drink wine and beer on the cruise; no hard liquor. But when your in Bermuda, don't worry the places don't even ask for i.d:)

happy birthday!!!

Depends which nationality it is. I went on a Princess cruise and I couldn't cos it was American, and you had to be over 21.
Check out the website for the one you want/are going on.

It should say so there.

=)

it depends on the cruise line. some cruise lines restrict you to only beer and wine at 18 but you dont need parental permission. bring a note and hope for the best. some cruise lines just dont care. and there will be plenty of opportunities to drink in port

LuvlyBee
never been on a cruise before. hope you have fun! :)
