Can anyone work on a cruise ship or do u need plently of experience in fields of work for certain positions?

It is all according what you wish to do, but if you have administration experience there is nothing stopping you applying to become a junior purser and then working your way up. See the following.
I work on the cruise ships and I would suggest as some of the others have said, contact the main cruise lines and find out more. Also on the company web sites there are buttons to the vacancies, but all are not apparent, some are called 'about us' etc. so keep searching. I also contacted a company that supplied a very good guide book with job profiles, how to get work, contact addresses etc and you got a bi-monthly news sheet with all latest vacancies. They are based in Glasgow, so plug it into a search engine, they were helpful. The service does cost a few quid but in my mind well worth it.
But be prepared for some long work hours and not large pay as itâ€™s made up with tips in the areas you are looking at.

The other thing to think of is 10 hours a day is a good day in some jobs on the ships with 11 and 12 being more like it, with the accommodation and bar work, other jobs have less work time, or if you have experience in something and get offered a supervisors position, or go for administration on the Pursers side of life, the working hours are less. but the company I mention will check your CV and suggest the options.

The people I have talked to that work on them..
you start at the bottom like cleaning rooms then you are able to move up to working in dinning rooms...like that. I also they want you to know at least 2 languages. Then again each ship could be differnet.

You need experience for any position you apply for on-board.

They will not hire people that don't know what they are doing.

i think if your going to be a waitress, it would help to have some experience in that before hand..but i think anyone could go and work

I have a relative who works for a holiday company and he often has to work on board ships. Finding work on a cruise ship isn't that difficult but don't expect to get paid well and it's no holiday either as you're indoors most of the time working behind the scenes.

navigation officer - on the bridge
engineering officer - in the engine room
casino staff- in the casino
hotel staff - hotel services
cooks - in the galley
hostess - on your back
really depends on what you want to do on board???

there are some jobs like in hospitality or seamanship that are pretty much entry level and other jobs that require special school. (you can often get and entry level job as a seamen but they do have a school and it would make you more desirable)

In my area they have a $50 application fee and they send you application to the cruise ships in the area so that you need only fill out one application.

Apply and you will find out. There are a LOT of jobs on boards. I understand it is a LOT of hard work and a lote of time away from home.
