Personal experience: The water bottles work. Don't be greedy and try to take a full bar with you, but one or two water bottles filled with rum or vodka will be fine. Don't leave it in regular containers. Don't flaunt that you have it. Be smooth and sneaky and you should be fine.

The above answers are from people with money that think that people without money shouldn't cruise. If that was the case, there would be no need for the inside cabins. Eff'em.

Reed: Sorry for the generalization but I get so irritated with people on here saying "if you can afford a cruise, you can afford to pay for the alcohol at cruise prices". Well that is simply not true. Some people go with a tight budget. Having a nice drink at the end of the day shouldn't be limited to those that can afford to drop a couple of hundred dollars on drinks. The alcohol on the boat is very overpriced, at least for people on a limited budget. Poor people who cruise may or may not sneak on alcohol - I don't know. But if someone asks about it, I suspect they are in the catagory that does. And vacationing within means isn't cheap, it's smart.

I bought my own in my checked in luggage (not carry on), wrapped up in clothes so that the bottles wouldn't break. I have never had a problem with alcohol and airport security especially since you can buy it in the airport.

My cousin wrapped it in her clothes and she got on board with 2 bottles of tequila. She checked it and she was fine. We didn't know she had it until we were on deck late at night and was talking about shots and she went to her room and got her bottle. We were all so shocked.

Kristina L how can you be do dumb to generalize? So is that to say that poor people who cruise will always bring booze on the ship since they are too cheap to pay for it on the ship?

Don't you people ever read the other questions? NO, do not try this as you can be removed from the ship. Buy your booze on-board like the normal people do. If you can afford a cruise you can afford to buy drinks.

I didn't sneak it on when we first boarded because I was afraid if I got caught they wouldn't allow me to board so I didn't take the chance. The drinks on board are pretty reasonably priced and strong. Also, they sell alcohol on board for SUPER cheap (but they don't delivery it to your stateroom until the last day.) When we went to St. Thomas we bought a few pints of rum and my boyfriend was able to sneak it on but when we went to Puerto Rico and tried to do it again, he got caught. They took it from him and gave it back to us on the last day, they were pretty cool about it. So, I don't know if you want to do it before you board because there is more security but...its a 50-50 shot..you may or may not get caught :)

I would actually try doing the water bottle thing, they really weren't that serious with liquids so you may get lucky with that! :) or bring a coke bottle, fill it up and pour just a little bit of coke in there to give it that coke look....i dont know...Get creative if you are serious about it, otherwise, just enjoy the drinks they have on board!

We have taken it on inside checked, not hand luggage. Also at visited ports.

Usually when you go ashore all you need is your cruise card to get back on board. So it is possible to bring back the small (don't be greedy and try for the big ones!) liquor bottles in a trouser or coat pocket (not obviously in a carrier bag) every time you go ashore. You don't get "searched" going back on board but if you look suspicious they might!

Most of the places you will visit always have booze cheaper than on board so it is worthwhile!

Don't buy duty free at your departing airport or in departure port! As you approach the ships check in they can see your "duty free" bags and WILL confiscate them, for return after the cruise!

Think clever and save yourself a fortune on on-board drinks!

No. The cruise lines have gotten just as strict as the airlines. However, you can purchase bottles of booze on the ship at very reasonable prices (cheaper than the liquor stores).
