Can i text on a cruise?
im going on a cruise in march to puerto rico and want to know if i will be able to text. its a carnival cruise, which i know ill have service, but will it cost more to text? i have unlimited texting with at&t. i know calling is more, but what about texting?
Many cruise ships now have cell phone service. You are billed by your carrier. I know that Verizon on Princess cruises charges $2.50 a minute for voice calls, $.50 to send text, and $.05 to receive text. Your unlimited texting does not apply. Make sure international roaming is activated on your phone.
Once you are in Puerto Rico your regular texting plan would probably apply. Check with your carrier.

if calling is more, most likely texting will cost some additional fees

Depends on which network your phone is. If you are on the ship's network it will cost you a lot more.
If you are on land in Puerto Rico, you pay depending your contract.
So I would avoid texting while at sea - and double check the network before you do, since the one of the ship goes via satellite.

Puerto Rico is part of the United States. You should be good to text fee free in the area of PR.

Unless your boat has a cell phone plan or something (very expensive) or you are in puerto rico, NO. There are no towers in the middle of the ocean. :)
