Can someone contact me on a Carnival Cruise if need be?

I'm going on a Carnival Cruise in March. We are leaving our 15 month old son with his Aunt. I have filled out "Emergency Authorization" for her just in case. Can she reach me on the cruise in the case of an emergency? How?

Here are the details from the Carnival website regarding shore to ship phone calls.

Also, have a look at your documentation. There should be the fax number of the ship somewhere - or your travel agent should be able to get it for you.

Friends and family may call guests onboard via Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN) Shore-to-Ship telephone service. The rate is $9.50 per minute from the United States; additional long distance charges may apply from outside the United States.

The caller needs to have available the ship name and the guest's name. The charges will be applied to the caller's credit card: MasterCard - Visa - American Express - The Discover Card - Diner's Club. 1-877 CCLSHIP (1-877-225-7447) from the U.S. 1-732-335-3284 from Canada and outside the U.S.

You can enable 'international roaming' on your phone through your wireless provider. That enables your cell phone to work on a cruise ship. In order to use the phone, though, it's pretty expensive - $2.50 per minute on Carnival. It also enables you to use the phone in port - I think it's about $0.99 per minute. It's free to set up, and I think you only get charged for minutes you use.

I'd check with the wireless provider first to see if you get charged to have the phone on, but not to call anyone.

Also, I think if it's an ABSOLUTE emergency, they can contact the cruise line, and have them page you on the ship itself. But to use the ship's phone, I think it's even more than $2.50 (I can't remember the exact price, because I wasn't interested). You can probably look at the FAQ's on your cruise website to find that out.

Your best bet is to take a cell phone with you. You can receive calls in your room, but thats no good if you are not in your room. If you think you will be receiving or making alot of calls you should contact your cell provider and check into getting an international plan added to your phone....Good Luck and enjoy!!

Well yes if you don't mind paying for it. She can make a phone call to your room if you give her the number before you leave port. Or if you dont mind paying a cellphone bill for her to call your phone.

Aunt can contact Carnival itself, and they can contact the ship, and the ship's crew will find you. It'd better be a REAL emergency, though!
