Today, all luggage goes through scanners. So if you pack your toy in your luggage and it's not the electronic type, it wouldn't show up on the scanners. BUT - if something else in your luggage causes the system to burp, then your luggage will be hand searched by a TSA Agent (they'll be wearing gloves). They may come across your toy, but I'm sure they'll just grin, check it out and let it go by. If you're asking if they'd take it, no, they wouldn't it.
Now, carry-on luggage. That also goes through the local scanners - and yep it will show up on the scanner. But again, they'll only check your bag if the system red flags it for some reason - or red flags you. Then you're carry-on bag will be thoroughly searched, again by TSA Agents. Most of them are professional and should let you go right away, but some can be down right nasty.
Once when I was coming through Dallas a lady on my flight got red-flagged by security and was asked to go to the full search area. That was back in 2003 when they were doing that. Anyway, when she was having her bag searched, the agent found her dildo. Well, he made a joke of it in front of her - and got the other agents around laughing too. I felt so sorry for her; she wasn't doing anything wrong. Just puritanical morales by these jerks trying to make an example of this poor woman.
So - go ahead and bring your Dildo. Bring two of them, bring more - have a dildo party on board. As long as it's private, they, the cruise line, the TSA, the Gov't, whomever, cannot and should not touch you - you have the right to privacy in your bedroom.
So have fun filling holes.
