Can you bring medicines from Mexico back on a cruise ship? |
We are going on a cruise in April and one of our stops is in Cozumel. We have been to Cozumel before, and I remember seeing tons of prescription meds for sale. I would like to stock up on antibiotics, but will I have problems with either Mexican customs getting onto the ship, Carnival Cruise Lines for bringing them on board, or US customs for bringing them back in?
In previous cruises, when we go through US customs, they don't even do anything with our bags. But, I do know they scan them, so would they pick up on anything like that? Any help is appreciated! |

If all you are bringing back are antibiotics, both the Mexican AND the U.S. Customs COULD NOT CARE LESS.
I usually bring an entire year's medications back from Mexico every year. Since none of them are NARCOTICS... nobody really cares. But, the easy way to bring them back is, pack them at the bottom of a sack with a bottle of booze and a carton of cigarettes on top... when when the customs inspector askes if you have anything to declare, just show them the bottle of alcohol and the carton of cigis... and they will just tell you to pay the duty... and wave you on your way. |

yes, it is considered illegal drugs being brought on board. unless you have a script for them, they are illegal.
personally, i would not want to go through all the pain with customs, and drug sniffing dogs when i returned home. Yes, the scanners can find drugs. Why do you think a cruise line was held up for 4 hours one day? A man put his nitro in his checked luggage causing major problems.
I would not do it. It is not worth possible jail time if you get caught. If you want to do it, take a box and put them in a box and mail them to yourself from Mexico. |

I brought back 4 cartons of cigs in my suitcase, no one said a word, even though only 1 is allowed. They should have easily shown up on the scanner.
I think the cruise ship security are more interested in finding booze, illegal drugs or fireworks when you reboard the ship in port. The customs officials are more interested in illegal drugs and fireworks/explosives.
I doubt it will be a problem. People cross the border everyday with basic meds on their person. |

If you attempt to bring any drugs on board, they will be confiscated and if your busted at the terminal, homeland security will charge you with a felony if you dont have a perscription.
I would NOT buy any drugs from mexico, you dont know what the fillers are and they are not the same quality and safety as USDA. |
