Can you fall of a cruise ship easily?

we are going on our first cruise next week and wanted to know if it was easy to fall off the sides and how tall the railings were, we have three kids.

It would be difficult to accidentally fall off of the railings unless climbing up on them foolishly. Do your kids fall over railings that don't have ocean on the other side of them? If they do so routinely, then you may want to reconsider your vacation plans. You need to impress upon your kids the potential danger, and you might want to make a rule that they can only go near the railings when they are with you and/or holding your hand.

Railings rise 3 1/2 feet off the outside deck floor, which is strictly regulated by the U.S. Coast Guard.

It's really not that easy. You would have to be specifically climbing the rails to fall off. Even then, you would need to lose your balance, have the boat shake, or climb to high on the rails to fall. In some areas, if you would fall, you would fall onto a lower deck and not actually fall into the water.

If you have a verandah, all the lines are a little different. Some offer different types so that it would be impossible for kids to get out.

The main thing, you just have to watch them. If they aren't in one of the kids clubs, don't let them run around a lone. Keep an eye on them, don't let them go alone, make them hold your hand etc.

It's not easy to fall off the rails, but you should let your kids know it is very dangerous to climb them. However, you never know who is on board (you never know who might be staying at the same hotel as you on vacation either) and what their intentions are. No one, no matter what age, should run around on ships (or most travel destination) alone. Stay together, and try to limit any alcohol that could cause more problems.

Have fun, just keep an eye on the kids and make sure you explain everything to them. Most cruiselines offer something for familes, they do everything they can to make kids safe!

How many children have you heard about who have disappeared from cruise ships?

How many adults have you heard about who have disappeared from cruise ships?

Would a child be more likely to be drunk, slip and fall or would an adult be more likely to be drunk, slip and fall overboard?

Do not worry about your children, worry about the drunk adults.

it think it is pretty safe once they don't climb up on the railings.

Angela
It's rather difficult. The doors to get out on the balcony areas are rather heavy(especially if there are any wind conditions), so if you have small children, it shouldn't be easy at all. Just make sure your kids understand the importance of not playing and climbing on the railings & you should be fine. Alcohol seems to play a major factor in the persons who have been on the news for their falling off the ships. One man several years ago fell off for tryin to take a leak off the railing...stupidity I tell you. Normal precautions should ensure you have a safe and fun cruise.

No. The railings are too high for children to get over.

I'd agree, you'd really have to work at it. However, it isn't unheard of (but those people were mainly all heavily intoxicated). Have fun!!!

no I dont think so.
