I don't have Cingular, I have Verizon. But for me, on most cruises, I can get reception a little way from the port, not far, but for a little ways. It may be a little hard to hear properly and things, you may drop a few a calls, but it should work for a little while.
As long as you are able to get service in the other ports, there should be no problem, while in port. But while at sea, you won't be able to get reception unless you are pretty close to land. You may also have higher charges depending on where you are from and what your coverage area is. |

We just got back from a cruise and what we found is that you can get reception in and very near some port cities. But do not count on getting a signal until you get off the ship. You may get a signal, but then lose it, just like when you are riding in a car. |

When you're at sea, it won't work; at least mine didn't. I remember mine did work (Verizon) in Jamaica and one other place, I think St. Thomas, but not positive... but I was able to call the U.S. from both places. I didn't try using my cell from other ports of call, so can't really say if it will work in other places. |

I have been on many Cruises around the world and always found reception from my mobile. I'm English and if our phones work abroad i'm sure you Americans can get yours working. Good Luck and enjoy your cruise xxx |

You'll have to check with the provider. I have just been on a cruise and we were able to get reception at port and when we were near land but out on the open waters it's impossible. There's always email to stay in contact with people. |

It depends on your plan. Most cell phones only have service on land or at port. The ships offer phone service, but at ridiculous rates. The internet isn't much better. |

when at sea its impossible, at the ports it will depend on your carrier and if you get service in that area....you can use the ships phone lines but it will be expensive |

When you are at sea you are not able to use a cell phone. But when you are in most ports you will be able to get reception. If you would like to call someone on a cruise ship you could use ship to shore calling which does cost money. But there is always internet connection onboard so you can email people back home. Probably until you reach shore email is a lot cheaper. |
