Once you hit international waters drinking age it 18 because most ship are ported outside the U.S. I Loved the Cayman Islands. Did a carribean cruise that had Cozumel MX, Cayman Islands, and Ocho Rios Jamacia, all beautiful but to be honest most of the palces where cruise ship go are beautiful..thats why they go there. U cant go wrong in visual stimuli area

I have been on both an eastern and western carribean cruise. Both were awesome! I cruised Carnival both times. I have been to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize, and Costa Maya on the western, and San Juan, St. Thomas, Antigua, Tortola, Nassau on the eastern. Personally the beaches on the eastern side were much nicer. The shopping on the western is better. As far as drinking ages go...on board you are required to be 21 to drink they sail from the states so they follow US law. Most of the islands are 18 to legally drink. Hope you have a great cruise!

First of all you need to know that unless you are at least 21 years old, or someone who will be in your cabin is that age, you cannot book a cruise on any cruise line. That requirement is higher at age 25 for cruises on Carnival. Here's some information about booking and drinking requirement from a couple of the cruise line web sites.

Carnival Cruise lines requires that the persons booking the cruise must be at least 25 years of age. All of the other cruise lines allow persons age 21 and above to book. Here's Carnival's policy:

"Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older. The exceptions Carnival will make to this policy are:

Married minor couple - The booking must be documented that the couple is married. The couple must have proof of marriage at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund.

The minimum age for the purchase and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the bars, lounges and gift shops is 21 years of age. Carnival reserves the right to refuse the sale of alcoholic beverages to anyone. In the event that Bar/Restaurant/Gift Shop Staff are in question that a guest is less than 21 years old, they shall request picture identification, prior to serving the drink or selling the bottle of liquor. "

The requirement on Royal Caribbean, Princess and other cruise lines are just a little different. They require that at least one person be age 21 or older.

Here's the Royal Caribbean policy straight from their web site:

"No guest under the age of twenty-one (21) will be reserved in a stateroom unless accompanied by an adult twenty-one (21) years of age, or older. This age limit will be waived for minor children sailing with their parents or guardians in adjacent staterooms or under-aged married couples (proof of marriage is required). Royal Caribbean International reserves the right to ask for proof of age. Royal Caribbean Internationals age policy for gambling and consumption of alcoholic beverages is as follows: Please note: An individual's age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation.

Effective as of all sailings commencing on or after July 28, 2006, the minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on all Royal Caribbean International ships is 21.

On cruises departing from European and South American countries, where the legal drinking age is typically lower than 21, a parent who is sailing with his or her son(s) and/or daughter(s) who is between the ages of 18 to 20, may sign a waiver allowing the 18 to 20 year old to consume alcoholic beverages.

The 18- to 20 year-old must agree to comply with Royal Caribbeans' policies, including among other things, agreeing to not provide alcoholic beverages to any other person, regardless of age. Restrictions apply, and this policy is subject to change without notice.

Here's what Princess requires:

"Passengers under the age of 21 years must be accompanied by a Passenger 21 years or older who shall assume responsibility for their care during the cruise. Each Passenger hereby agrees and warrants that he/she will supervise any Passenger in his/her care at all times to ensure all policies, along with all other rules of the Carrier and ship, are strictly adhered to by all Passengers under their supervision. No alcohol may be purchased or consumed by any Passengers under the age of 21. No Passenger under the age of 21 shall be permitted to engage in any gaming activities on board the ship. No Passenger under the age of 18 shall be permitted to purchase cigarettes or tobacco products. Passengers hereby agree not to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind (except wine and champagne) on board for consumption."

So if your group includes at least one person age 21 or older you can book the cruise on any line other than Carnival. But you can forget being able to drink alcoholic beverages on ship.
