I have been on this cruise. You can go to the beach at each port, but you will want to do at least some excursions. The stingrays are great on the Grand Caymans. In Cozumel many of the excursions are all inclusive beach days including food and alcohol. Have fun as I had a great time on the Conquest. If you need some further info email me. stepmiller2@yahoo.com |

You will enjoy the Carnival Conquest. She is a nice ship. We have been on her twice and wil return for the 3rd cruise in June 09.
You do not need to book a ship sponsored shore excursion to leave the ship.
However, if you plan to leave the ship in Jamaica, I highly recommend booking a managed shore excursion through Carnival. It is better not to be wandering around this area. Notable...you can get an excursion to Dunns Falls...it is about a 90 minute bus ride. It is a very physical challenge. Avoid the horseback riding on the beach...it is not what it is advertised.
There are tons of things to do in Coz...we loved the Caverns by Jeep tour but you need to be able to drive a standard. It is a full day event. Do you shopping in the open markets in Coz...avoid the malls. You should negotiate with the vendors...it is part of the experience. Take plenty of $1, 5 and 10 in US dollars for shopping in port and taxis.
In GC, you have to tender (ride the ferry) to get to the dock. Priority for tendering is given to those guests that have shore excursions booked through Carnival. The big thing to do on GC is the Stingray excursions. But skip the trip to Hell...it is just a convenience store in front of a rock formation. We like the Boatswain's excursion. You get full use of the lagoon and pool at the turtle farm. You can also enjoy the beach i GC. Shopping in GC is expensive and the locals are a bit standoffish.
Don't miss the Sur Mur...it is on the 2nd level of the Cezzanne. Fish and chips! P.C.'s Wok make great casual Chinese food. Be sure to get a bite of the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake in the dining room. My teens love the pizza.
The ships are supposed to be moving back from the Port of Houston to the Port of Galveston this week. If so, you should contact Lighthouse Parking to see if they are up and running again. It is cheaper to park there and the shuttle seems to come faster than parking at the cruise terminal. |

Coz is an easy port to deal with. If you want to just go to the beach, just jump in a cab and have them drop you off at any of the beach clubs. Mr. Sancho's is a good one. Try to get others in your cab with you as the price is set for the cab not per person. You can also take a snokle or discovery scuba trip with Eagle Ray divers and have them drop you off at the beach. GC is another easy port to deal with, as others have mentioned you can go to stingray city, if you are not into that, you can jump on the shuttle bus and head down to Sea Grape beach. Mobay, is one of the few ports that I wouldn't venture out alone in. I did the zip line / canopy tour and it is a total blast. Stay with your tour group there. The other poster was right about the hell drivers. the bus ride to the canopy tour was scarier than the zip lines themselves! |

Coz and Cayman are easy to do on your own, assuming you are willing to do some research ahead of time, are comfortable with the "uncertainty" of it and can keep track of time, allowing plenty of time to get back to the ship an hour before it leaves.
In Cayman you can book your own tour for the stingrays - Capt. Marvin and Nativeway are two companies I've used and been pleased with. I preferred the latter because they had an excursion that included Rum Point [wow!], although we just did make it back in time to catch the last tender to the ship!!
In Coz, just catch a cab south to any of the beaches. We love Chankanaab Park [although we haven't been since it was rebuilt after the hurricane]. Others love Paradise Beach [not good snorkeling and too crowded] or Nachi Cocom, Mr. Sancho's, etc.
MoBay - never been, but Jamaica in general isn't a place you want to be "going it alone". Even some of the ship's excursions have had problems in Jamaica [which is why some cruise companies are dropping it as a destination]. I would ONLY do a ship's excursion here. Don't try to do Dunn's River Falls, unless you'd enjoy a long ride on curvy, narrow roads with what would probably seem like a "hell driver"!
Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then go to the "Ports of Call" section for lots of great advice from experienced cruisers. You might also want to check out the "Carnival" board, "First Time Cruisers", etc. You might also want to click on "Reviews" at the top of the home page and read "Member Reviews" for your ship.
Have a great cruise! |

I went in july and am going again on sunday(11/2) it was wonderful. you can go to a beach at each port. but you do want to do a shore excursion. mainly because if you lose track of time the boat WILL leave you there. Be sure you do the sting rays in cayman they are undescriable!!! e-mail me with any questions you may have. |
