Carnival Cruise June 08- Should We book excursions now or wait until we get in port?

I would say, if you are going to use ship's tours and have ones that just "have" to do, book them ahead of time. If there are several that you would be happy with, you can wait until you get on the ship and see what's available. Another alternative is to do tours on your own, depending on how comfortable you would be with that.

CruiseCritic.com is a good source for feedback regarding tours, both ship-sponsored and independent. Click on "Boards" at the top of the page, then "Ports of Call".

I would suggest you wait. What the cruiseline will charge you, you can get it cheaper once you get to the port. Usually when you get the the port, there are people offering tours, that works for a touring company. Yes they are authorized to do tours. You just make sure you see their license to do tours displayed on the dashboard.

It's up to you.

Keep in mind those shore excursions are non refundable, so I always tell my clients to wait until final payment and you absolutely know you are going. if you know 100% NOW, then go for it. Especially if you see something that is a little more exotic or is sure to be popular. Also, there are other places to book shore excursions such as shoretrips.com and when you get off the ship. Sometimes you can save yourself major bucks if it is a simple city tour.

When my wife and I went on a cruise, we booked them all ahead and then started dropping them after the 3rd day. I think this is what a lot of people did, so I'd suggest booking your early days ahead and seeing how that goes. It's likely the excursions on later days will have spots.

Good luck.

I would definitely suggest waiting. The day before you arrive at your first port they have a carnival speaker tell you about all the ports. Good & Bad. They give you a lot more information than is online. We thought we knew what we wanted to do then went to that and changed our minds.

I have been on 5 cruises & never had an excursion I wanted to do that was full. I have always booked on the ship the 1st day.

The More Popluar the Tour is the faster they fill up. So if there is something that you really like to do I would recommend booking it early.

If there is osmething "must do", you can book before the cruise. You always have time to cancel (usually 24-48 hours ahead) once you board ship.

Keep in mind though no tour will ever sell out before sailing. Only a partial number of spots are available online pre boarding since there are people who do not use computers and that would not be fair to them.

The shore excursion desk on board is always going to open at some point during embarkation day for people to purchase tours. If you wait a day or two, then many will be sold out.

It is best to book the excursions now because some of them have a limited amount of people. When you get there you will just want to relax and not have to deal with all the paperwork and everything :)
