If you're worried about getting seasick then you want to be as close to the middle of the boat as possible as that is where the rocking will be felt the least. I've been on 5 carnival cruises at varying time of the year (except Sept - Nov which is prime hurricane season) and the boat really doesn't rock much. Other than that the difference is where on the boat you want to be. Avoid the lower decks if possible as they sometimes have a mild sewer smell. (not always but sometimes and really only in the hallways) Any balcony deck would be fine as they are all above mid ship. If you are on a ship that does not have balcony rooms get a room on the upper, empress or veranda decks. Stay away from the rooms on Lido Deck unless you want to be in and around all of the parties, noise, activities, etc. Most of the activities and entertainment will be on the lido deck by the pools. Good luck and have fun.

The main differance is the deck that your located on, the higher up you are the better because your less likely to get sick because of boat rocking, the lower is worse, but the higher the more expensive, each room with a balcony has an amazing view so thats not a big deal the biggest things is if your likely to get seasick id go higher up, but either way they are tons of fun i went last october with my fam.

We've had corner balconies on the Upper Deck and the Verandah Deck before. Our personal favorite is Verandah because it is a bigger room and balcony. Yes, you feel the motion more the further up you are. But it is worth it. Being that this is your first cruise and you might not know if you'll get sea sick, I suggest choosing one either in the middle of the ship or closer to the bottom of the ship.

Cruise Critic is a BIG help!

there just the different decks.

im going on a cruise im 2 months, and im on the upper deck.
i like that one the best because its right in the middle of the ship, and just above all the shops and restrurants.

For the most stability, if you're worried about sea sickness, you want to be low and in the middle.

Those names you mentioned are the names of the different decks. You want to be careful not to get rooms over/under the noisy public rooms [disco, theater, pool deck, etc] if noise bothers you. Also don't book a room under the galley!

It sounds like you need to do some research before you book your cruise. Go to the library and get a book about cruising, to help you figure out what you need to look for. A travel agent who specializes in cruises can also help, but he/she will have lots of questions, so you still need to do a little research yourself.

A good source of info is CruiseCritic.com and their "Boards" and "Reviews" sections.
