As far as cruise lines go Carnival has some of the larger accommodations, but they are still cabins on a cruise ship so they are by their nature small. You are not expected to "live" in your room and the ships offer a lot to do outside of your room. As for the decor, I have been on five Carnival cruises and yes some of the rooms were tacky and some were decorated quite nicely. I suggest you go and not worry about it for it is the cruising adventure your travel for.

The rooms are small but its a ship not a Hilton. I didn't find the rooms smoky and i don't smoke. Carnivals rooms are bigger than RCL. Yes the decor leave a bit to be desired, its more Vegas than Hilton but its a room, not a home. I have pics but unfortunaly cant figure out how to get them here

The room is not going to be as big as your regular hotel room unless you get a suite. But all you are going to do in the room for the most part is sleep and shower and store you stuff. Carnival has the larger rooms in the major cruise lines aimed at younger crowds. I also do not smoke and can tell when I am somewhere when someone has been smoking or does smoke and I have never had a cruise cabin that made me feel this way and I have been on Carnival several times.

Most of the cabins are 150 to 160 square feet. It is large enough for a pair of beds (no such thing as a single cabin), night stand, small table, and sofa. The bathroom will have a toilet, sink, and shower. Watch out for the small ledge between the bathroom and the main cabin. You will probably stub your toe before you learn to avoid it.

Ship cabins are not overly large but they are comfortable. A hotel room may have 350 to 500 square feet.

She was right... their rooms are VERY small... and the whole ship is full of CIGARETTE SMOKE.
