Carnival Cruise lines..."standby" ? |
Is it true that if you live in one of their port cities you can purchase a "standby" ticket? For example...I have heard that in Tampa you can go down to the dock and if the cruise leaving is not full you can buy a ticket at a reduced rate. You just have to be flexible with time and not choosy about which ports the cruise is gong to. Any info would be helpful as I live in Mobile, Alabama. |

NO...But you can book last minute and grab a bargain if the ship has availability. Some here will say that you can't book 24hrs out but the facts are that you can. I book last minute cruises all the time, some at some nice savings and some that offer flat cruise fares.

I don't believe any cruise line allows you to go to the pier on the day of sailing and purchase tickets for that day.(even on standbye status). Most require purchasing tickets 72 hours or more in advance, I believe.

Minimum time to book a cruise is 72 hours. The cruise line has to produce a passenger manifest for customs and immigration 72 hours before departure.
Getting a cruise on the dock used to be possible, but not since 9/11. |

No, that is not true since the U.S. was attacked on 911. You can book a cruise with some of the cruise lines 24 hours prior to departure, but not on the dock on the same day as departure. With Princess cruise lines, you have to book at least 72 hours in advance, for safety reasons. |
