Carnival Cruises decided a woman was too pregnant to cruise on their ship...? |
good for them. Refund their money. Why are people upset over this? A cruise ship is not a hospital. Nor do they want the liability if the baby is born or injured. Why are companies not allowed to make their own rules without people getting their panties in a bunch? |

It's not just Carnival. All of the cruise lines have similar policies and they are for the protection of ALL of the passengers. It protects the expectant mother and baby from possible complications if there was a birth at sea. And it protects the rest of the passengers who could have their very expensive vacations that they have probably planned for and expected for a long time. I have been on ships that had medical emergencies and the ship had to divert to accommodate it to the detriment of all of the rest of the passengers; like missing a port stop completely. You are right, people need to think about others as well as themselves. |

First Last

I think people complain to much about that kind of stuff. I mean it also depends on whether the person was 2 months or nine months. I first would have called ahead of time to make sure it was okay. But I agree with you. Everyone wants their 5 minutes of fame I guess. |

Due September 17th with baby #1

Carnival Cruise Lines Brochures and website state clearly "Please be advised that guests who are 24 weeks or more into their pregnancy at the time of voyage will not be permitted to sail because of the risk of premature labor". And if the passenger has not purchased the Vacation Protection Plan (cruise insurance) then Carnival has no obligation to refund the guests money after a certain date or if the guests were denied boarding. |
|

Time travler
 |
Before you book a cruise, they spell out restrictions such as pregnancy's. I guess they didn't read about that, but it isn't the cruise ships fault if people are too stupid to read about restrictions. I mean if you are pregnant, wouldn't you automatically question if you can travel. I'm even surprised Carnival refunded there money. They didn't have to do that unless they had bought insurance. People are just stupid! |

We just got back from a Disney cruise. It is made very clear that expectant women after a certain week will not be allowed to travel. It is for the protection of the mother and unborn child.
The Cruise lines make these rules because common sense tells them too. And some people have no common sense.
Private comanies have the right to refuse "service" to anyone they wish. This rule is a must.
*added after the "you guys didn't read the whole story"
The family left her sit at the dock. They could have chosen not to travel.
Also...it the cruise information we got before we cruised..DOCTOR's note doesn't work.
The cruise line is protecting the woman and the unborn child. If something would happen....the cruise line would be sued for sure.
They have the option of buying the travel insurance and it was made very clear why we should take it..just for these types of situations. |

I don't see anything wrong with what they did......why would a woman that pregnant want to go on a trip anyway? When I got close to my due date, I wanted to stay as close to home as possible. |

Clearly you guys didn't read the whole story...
"When does corporate responsiblity become irresponsibility? When it leaves a pregnant woman standing on the dock alone, her family all aboard waving good-bye.
Huey Tsao of Washington DC was 26 weeks pregnant when she attempted to board the cruise for a large family reunion. The cruise was booked in 2007, back when the allowance for boarding while pregnant was 27 weeks. Since Ms. Tsao was not going to be 27 weeks before she embarked on her cruise, she thought everything was fine.
Tsao also had a note from her doctor, saying she was fine to cruise.
But, late last year Carnival Cruise lines changed the rule for pregnant women boarding to a limit of 24 weeks. That put Tsao beyond the limit.
Never mind that she booked the cruise, before the cruise line made the policy change, they stood firm.
Tsao said that when she bought her ticket she got a brochure that said guests pregnant over 27 weeks cannot board the ship.
It was their response to this problem that really set things ablaze. In typical Carnival arrogance, the line claimed that it was her fault for not checking their website to see there had been a policy change.
This is where we ALL need to make a mental note. Having a computer and an internet connection is now mandatory in order to cruise with Carnival cruise lines. It doesn't get more arrogant that.
It is simply unrealistic to assume or demand that ALL passengers have or can attain internet access, or would have any clue at all how to use a computer. This could be true of many seniors citizens, who lived 60, 70, 80 years or more without a computer, and see no need this late in their life to learn something new, just to take a cruise.
The proper way to handle a policy change is notify all booked passengers of the policy change, not hope that they don't become aware of it so you can take their money and run.
To frost the cake, the cruise line only offered to compensate Tsao after she enlisted the help of a local television station. Then, all they offered Tsao was a credit on a future cruise.
Given she can't cruise until after she gives birth, and infants are not allowed on cruise, it is becoming more unlikely Tsao will be able to use the credit at all unless she wants to cruise with a toddler, which is never advised.
The family reunion, complete with all those people she was anxious to see was THIS year. In order to take a cruise now, and not take it alone, which could not be much fun, she would have to have at least one other person PAY for a cruise, so she could use her credit. That is not much of a deal for Tsao, but a nice cherry deal for Carnival. " |
