If you are thinking of going during the winter holiday, then book asap as this time frame fills up rather fast. Consider going on one of the classier ships like Princess or Royal Caribbean. You know the old saying, you get what you pay for applies here. I can't think of any cons as this is a great time to go to the Caribbean.

If you want more of a crowded party-life type cruise, take Royal Caribbean. If you want something more relaxing, take Princess.

I'm a bit limited in my experience, but my brother got married on the Carnival Liberty last January and we all had an amazing time. The ship is beautiful - the food was amazing - and there was always tons to do. We were on an 8 day cruise to Eastern Caribbean. We had 4 kids in our group as well (ages 9-13) and they all had a great time. There are lots of balcony suites available, nice shops, lots of food choices, and lots of tanning areas if you like to just lay around on deck. I'm not sure why others always put down Carnival - sure they don't have the private cooking classes or learn how to do ice sculpture lessons - but to me that's not really worth paying an extra $800 per person to go on a Princess Cruise. We had a really diverse crowd, young/old/families, and there really was something for everyone. We even met a retired couple that cruise once a month and they said ours was their favourite ship and destination spots (St Thomas, Tortola, Puerto Rico, Antigua, Bahamas).
