i'm going on a princess saphire cruise and i was wondering if there would be any cell phone service? i know this is probably a stupid question but its a stupid question that needs an answer!

Many ships now have cell phone service. There is no charge by the ship. Your cell phone company charges you at international rates.

It is available on the Sapphire Princess. Verizon charges $2.49 a minute. You would have to check with your carrier about international roaming for cruise ships.

It depends on your cell phone service provider. I have sprint, and it doesn't work anywhere i need it to. As soon as i leave shore in NY i have no signal. however i heard AT&T had service Much further out. Also for a very heafty price, you can make a call straight from the ship, on the princess ships it cost $8.95 a min for us, but every ships different. Good luck on your cruise! |

Although most ships now have cell phone service and e-mail service available to passengers, they are very expensive! You might want to follow the crew members when they leave the ship at the various stops, since they all seem to know exactly where the local internet cafes are. Or just ask the crew! Better yet, enjoy your cruise and ignor the cell phone and internet unless there is an emergency -- it's rather nice to be out of touch! By the way, this is NOT a stupid question! |

It's not a stupid question at all. A lot of ships have their own 'cell', but there are major roaming charges. It is best to arrange with your provider to have local access at your ports during your cruise. The least expensive way to phone home while at sea is to purchase a prepaid calling card while in port and use a public telephone. |

Your cell phone will work fine when you are in port, but on the ship at sea, no, except for very expensive charges. I find it cheaper to e-mail friends from the ship. The Sapphire has a really nice internet cafe. They even serve pastry's and coffee and juice right there. It is my favorite Princess ship. |
