You need to contact the cruise lines directly. On their web sites you will find a link to jobs, employment, human resources or some such link that will give you information about their positions. Some sites even have current vacancies they are recruiting for. Several cruise lines have new ships coming out soon so opportunities will be there. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Disney and some others will have new ships launched in the next couple years.

Here are some links:

The luxury cruise lines are:

REGENT SEVEN SEAS:
http://www.rssc.com/

RADISSON:
http://www.cruisingluxury.com/Radisson.....

SILVER SEAS:

CRYSTAL:

AZAMARA:

Other cruise lines that most people go on:

CUNARD:
http://www.cunard.com/

HOLLAND AMERICA

CELEBRITY:

ROYAL CARIBBEAN:

NORWEGIAN:

PRINCESS:

CARNIVAL:

DISNEY:

Then there are some that operate out of Europe:

P&O:

STAR:

COSTA:
http://www.costacruise.com/B2C/USA/Def.....

MSC:

I know that on Royal Caribbean's site if you go to the bottom of their home page and click on OUR COMPANY it will take you to a page where career opportunities are listed by category: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/ourCompany...

Then there are more links that will let you see and download job requirements. Celebrity Cruise line is a RC affiliate and so you should be able to get similar information from them the same way. here's a link to their jobs page: http://www.celebritycruises.com/aboutcel...

Here's Norwegian Cruise line: http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPag...

Another thing to do is to contact the concession that run the shops on the ships like the souvenir, gift and clothing shops. Below are links for you.

For most positions you need to be 21 and have experience. They can't spend a lot of time training you, and it is generally assumed that you know what you are doing already.

The positions that hire under age 21 are generally:

Spa
Massage Therapist
Singer
Dancer

As an American who has worked on a ship before, it can be a lot of fun, although some days it's a heck of a lot of work. But then you get to see some awesome places and you can't beat the scenery.

Judging from Tinkertoy's response I don't think he has ever worked on a ship.

For example on the Royal Caribbean website you will not find any entry-level shipboard positions. Positions listed on the website are senior staff and officer positions. You will also not find any positions that are vendor operated (shops, spa, etc...)

Generally for insurance and liability purposes you have to be 21 years of age. As stated before, they do hire some people who are younger for certain positions.

I don't know of any hiring partners in Ireland, but Cast-A-Way is a partner located in the UK

http://www.cast-a-way.co.uk/

You can also try:

http://www.cruiseshipemployment.ca/

Which is a U.S. and Canadian hiring partner. Not sure they could help, but they might have a contact or something in Ireland

I think you have to be 21 before you can apply

Why don't you go to college for a year first and get the basics first? Could you do a level in Hospitality?
My college offers levels 1,2,3 in Hospitality and now I've finished a HNC. I'm starting a HND Hospitality Management in October. (Scotland).

There is someone in my class that used to work on the ships but came off them because they don't offer jobs where you can get qualifications at the same time. This is the reason why he has had to come to college to be able to get higher up.

I would suggest going to college first and doing a course in Hospitality to get the basics first.

There is no better job! Keep an eye out for a maritime school in your area, or in the area you're going to be working in. You do have to go through a training course before you can work on a moving boat. It's usually short.

Good luck!

The cruiseline websites have a page for employment information.

If you're American, I'd guess your chances are slim, except for the Norwegian American ship in Hawaii [which is not well thought-of for its service level]. Americans don't tend to want to work for the extremely low wages and under the difficult working conditions on a cruise ship.

But it doesn't hurt to get the information!
