Cruise Line Rooms: Worth Spending Extra For A Suite?

My girlfriend and I are vacationing on a cruise ship in January for our 3rd year anniversary; I would like it to be a special trip and thinking of spending extra on the rooms. However, it is worth spending more on a suite for 7 nights? I know we'll be out of the room for most of the trip, but I still don't want to feel crowded; not to mention, the suites have larger features such as bathroom space and balcony.
Thank you for your help!

Note: This could be an opportunity to...ask something.

YES - it is worth it. We have always gotten suites when we cruise. The reason people say you don't spend time in your room is because they have small rooms! If you have a suite with a balcony you will spend ALOT of time in your room and on your balcony.
It is well worth the money.

Dude dont waste that money...trust me! Yes it may be nicer BUT the fact that you're cruising and not even married is NICE enough! U will only spend a few hours in your cabin the entire trip!!!!!! There are things going on 24 hrs a day and sleeping will not even be a priority. Have fun. Pick a cabin midship...they are fine!

It depends on what you are giving up to go in the suite. I have been on seven cruises, two of which were in suites. In my opinion the suite is not worth the extra cost.

However, as I said, it really depends on what you have to give up to stay in the suite. If it means the choice between a really nice shore excursion or a suite, I would take the shore excursion. If you have enough funds that you can stay in a suite and do everything else you want to do, then perhaps the greater room that a suite offers might be worth it to you.

The first suite I was in was just to find out what it was like (I have been in an inside cabin, an ocean view cabin, a balcony cabin and a suite). The second time I was in a suite was because it was the only way to put six people in the same cabin.

So look at what you are going to have to give up to stay in the suite. If you would be happier with the extra room than than what you are giving up, book the suite. Otherwise, book a balcony cabin and spend the money you save on some other treat that will provide you with more enjoyment.

Go for a cabin with a balcony and an unobstructed view, not as big as a suite, but the money you save can be used to make the occasion when you ask her something very special.
Julie T has given you very good advice.
You can always go for the suite when you are on your honeymoon.
Enjoy your cruise and good luck with your question.

As you pointed out, there's only two of you and you're not there that much anyway. Many rooms are bookable for up to four people. Now that can be cozy!

Travel cheap, travel often is my motto. Unless you are looking to really impress, save the $$$.

Consider spending the extra money on a special way to ask the "something special" like a private carriage ride or other unique setting. She will brag about you for the rest of your life. Check out the ports on your itinerary for options.

Consider the suite for the honeymoon!

Matt
Go for it!! Its worth the money to not be in such tight quarters for an entire week.

Personally I enjoy the inside cabins because there are no windows and no light. This can come in handy if you're out all night or up all night (this might be the case with you guys ;) ).

There's something to be said for being able to crawl into bed in wee hours of the morning and sleeping in complete darkness until you've recovered.

teamlessbear
i have done a cruise in a small room, yes, the quarters are tight, but as you said, you will spend most of your time out of the room.

if the up-charge is not a dramatic amount, sure, splurge a bit, but if it is considerably higher, spend the money on shore excursions instead, you will get more enjoyment out of the shore stuff than the room size.

If you are going to "ask" anything you better spring for the suite. . we just had clients report back from their trip and they are SO glad they did. You can read client feedback.

Curly
Go for it!

Regular rooms/bathrooms are very small. I think you would enjoy the suite, especially the balcony. Sometimes you just want a private area to look out on the water without seeing Speedo-clad sunbathers!

Have a good time!

3 years? Ya it is worth it. but only if she is a keeper
