You seem to be looking for some cruise line websites. Here are the websites for the major US based lines that go to Europe ...
Carnival - http://www.carnival.com/
Celebrity - http://www.celebritycruises.com/
Holland America Line - http://www.hollandamerica.com/countryResidence.htm?id=/
Disney (sometimes goes to Europe) - http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/home/home?bhcp=1
Princess - http://www.princess.com/
Royal Caribbean - http://www.royalcaribbean.com/gohome.do
Norwegian Cruise Line - http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/home.html
Costa (an Italian line owned by Carnival) - http://www.costacruise.com/B2C/USA/Default.htm |

Try crucon.com. We got a great deal there on the Queen Mary II- 11 days balocony to the Carribian $1100 each. The QM II also goes between NYC and the UK several times a year. It is true thar the more expensive lines have a greater percentage of older people but you feel like a character in an old b&w movie - a rich character. |

Amber,
I realize that 2010 is only about 2 years away.
I would check thru a travel service that deals with the cruise lines.
Most cruises lines to Europe leave from New York City or I believe Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
A cruise today would cost about $900 per person or more depending on your accomodations and I would have to think that you would have to add 2 - 5 % to that figure by 2010.
Usually a decent cabin will accomodate two people very comfortable. Inside cabins are less expensive. |

DEFINATELY use a travel agent- they will be able to help you the most. Try www.cruise.com --figure out what part of Europe you want to go to--and what ports are important to you, also how many days you want to go. We dont have the 2010 iteneraries out yet, but they usually send us them the latter part of 2009--the best time to go to Europe in my opinion is September/october -no kids, and it has cooled down a bit.... Best of Luck-- |

I have been on 14 cruises. Here is what I do to save money.
1. Be flexible. Always book well in advance, try to cruise in periods other than Christmas, New Years, March breaks and so on.
2. Start at CruiseValue.com and search for fares and jot down two or three cruises that you are interested in.
3. With this information go to CruiseCompete.com and fill out their form for your desired cruises. If you are not yet registered with Cruise Compete you can register for free.
4. Within minutes you will recieve competitive quotes sent to you by email from a wide range of cruise travel companies and cruise wholesalers.
5. Contact the company with the lowest fare and ask them if there is a charge for cancelling later and if they say no then I proceed to 'book' the cruise with them. |

It really depends on the cruise ship and where you want to go. Some cruise ships, 'Carnival' are more family oriented. They can be cheaper, they are less formal BUT you'll have screaming children everywhere. 'Norwegian' or 'Cunard' cruises are more 'old people' and 'posh' cruise lines, so expect no children and fancy dinners.
Here's a good guide to get your started: http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/firsttime/
Carnival http://www.carnival.com/
Holland America http://www.hollandamerica.com/countryResidence.htm?id=/
Princess http://www.princess.com/

I highly recommend going to a travel agent for this. I don't usually recommend travel agents because the internet makes everything so easy. BUT, cruises have lots of different components to them. Since your parents have never been on a cruise, they might need the advice. A travel agent will charge a consult fee, but it's worth it. With cruises, there are many on shore excursions, a travel agent can advise them and help them arrange these excursions. Especially since your parents are going over to Europe, a travel agent will advise your parents on applicable travel visas that may be required. It would be terrible for your parents to arrive at the port and be rejected for not having the appropriate travel papers...
Cruises charge per room. There are many different types of rooms, a travel agent can pull strings and get you the right room. (I used to be an agent, and for some nice clients, sometimes we could request complementary upgrades for the client if there was a cancellation from someone in a higher room...) |
