Cruise Ships Sank?

I want to take a cruise to Alaska and I was just wondering what cruise lines have had cruise ships sink and what is the likelyhood of it happening?

Forget about it. You go around worrying, you won't do anything.

Go ahead and enjoy your trip.

Do a search online, but it's rare for them to sink. There was one recently, but I don't remember the line and I think it was in the Mediterranean but I could be mistaken. (i just looked it up, here's an article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17980169/)

I seriously wouldn't let that deter me if I were you. Every form of transportation has problems sometimes. Planes crash, trains and automobiles wreck, ships sink....but statistically all of those modes of transportation are considered "safe".

Enjoy your trip. I've lived in Alaska...you'll see some beautiful scenery.

honey don't worry about it not many sink and its not like the titanic they save all now so get out there make some memory's

If you listen to the news or read newspapers you'll discover that most passenger ships sinking nowadays are in Indonesia, The Philippines and similar countries as they overload the vessels.

The safety on board cruise ships is very high and in the highly unlikely event of an accident, the crew is trained to safe your ***.

Don't worry about disasters that could happen, enjoy your cruise and relax.

There are more coast guard vessels in Alaska than anywhere else on Earth. Wherever the cruise ships are, the coast guard is literally only minutes away. If you pay attention to where the life jackets are located you will live long enough to be rescued. But where the cruise ships go safety is not a problem. The dangerous areas are in the Bering sea where the cruise ships don't go. What you have to be weary of is those flightseeing trips. Alaska has more aircraft crashes than the other 49 states COMBINED.

You are not going to sink. The chances are soo unlikely. Just enjoy your cruise!

I have cruised several times. I have never had any fears about the ship sinking. You hardly even know you are on a ship unless you are on deck.

That ship that sank in Greece was the ship I was on in July of last year. Truly, it is a fluke thing. I would not be worried about a ship sinking. Most of the ships know the water and it is very charted.

I believe only one cruise ship has sunk in the last 30 years. That was the Holland Americans Prinsendam in 1980. They had a fire in the engine room and after the largest civilian air-sea rescue off the coast of Sitka it sank while being towed to Seattle. It s last port of call was Juneau.

the possibility of the ship sinking is very rare. with todays technology if a ship was in danger of sinking they would have passengers of before it even sank. The most recent cruise ship that sank was in the mediterranean a few weeks ago and all passnegers where boarded off the ship before it sank

The only cruise line I know of that's had a ship sink is White Star Line (Titanic). Other than that, I'm sure it's happened, but it's rare. It's probably even more rare than an airplane crashing. Anyway, by law, all cruise ships have a mandatory drill so that all passengers can become familiar with the evacuation procedures in case your ship does sink. But I've been to Alaska and do you want to hear something cool? When you're sailing through Glacier Bay or Sawyer Glacier (or somewhere else with ice bergs in the water), you can hear the ship hitting the icebergs and you can see the paint that has been scratched off the bottom. It's pretty scary, but the ships have reinforced bottoms so that it doesn't do any damage to the body, just the paint. So really, you have nothing to worry about.
