Which do you usually get when you go on a cruise...
Interior, ocean view, balcony, or suite?
Forward, aft, or midship?
Do you prefer a certain deck?

My favorite are the rear facing balcony cabins. Such as these ...

Here is a photo of my rear facing balcony on the Carnival Glory ...

From personal experience, midship is the best - it's where you'll feel the boat rocking the least, so if you're worried about seasickness then pick a midship cabin. The balcony sounds like it would be nice, but the rooms are sort of small and so are the balconies, plus theres so much to do, that you'll never use it. Also, for the suite, like the balcony, theres so much else to do, that you'll find that the only thing you do in your room is sleep and change, so the extra space isnt worth the extra money.

To be hones we get what we can afford. If we can only afford a inside cabin then we get an inside cabin. We are about to be spoiled because we found an awesome price for a Mini-Suite on our next cruise. If we can we do try to get a balcony on the ship because of the view.

If we have a balcony then we try to get an Aft facing cabin, that way we get a view of both sides of the ship as well as a view of the ships wake, which can be mesmorising.

If we don't get an Aft facing cabin then we try to get a cabin as far aft or forward as possible. The reason for this is exercise. One of the things that a lot of people lament about a cruise is the amount of food. By getting a cabin as far aft or forward as possible is we force ourselves to walk since most activities are to one end of the ship and most food is at the other end we get a lot of transit time. On our last cruise our aft cabin helped us get an extra 3-5 miles of walking in a day.

We always get a large suite. We have been in the front of the ship, the back and in the middle. The back you will normally have a larger balcony, and very private.
The middle is less private. I would never consider a cabin without a balcony - it is worth the extra money.

I always get an interior, near midships, and as high a deck as I can get for the guaranteed price. I can't see spending extra for a window, and we are not in the room enough for it to make that much of a difference. Maybe when I get older I will look at it different, but for now, I only go to the room to sleep, shower, and dress. And maybe the occasional nap in the afternoon, which is another reason that I like the interior.

We usually go for an interior cabin, because we spend so little time in the cabin. (washing and sleeping) We go for the Midships cabins to be further away from propeller, thruster and winch vibration. We also tend to select a cabin with cabins above and below acting as noise insulation from machinery and entertainment areas.
Ocean view, balconies and suites are nice but unless you are on a cruise with many sea days and you are going to use them a lot, it's a waste of money that you can spend on trips instead.

Interior, Forward, I like it to be dark so I is easy to nap during the day, there are plenty of deck space on the ships
Empress or higher,
but Upper is good on a Carnival Conquest class ship
I like to be on a deck with the atrium it is closer to everything

When I book I love picking out my cabin, and close to the elevators is nice

shhhhhhhhhhhimhiding
I prefer: Outside, if not balcony
Midship, definately not forward (think anchors)
Empress, on Carnival

I prefer a balcony cabin or suite on as high a deck as I can get and near one of the elevator bays. I will not even cruise on a ship any more that does not have a balcony because I love having my private space and I do use it a lot. I prefer mid ship because if you are at one end or the other its a hell of a long walk to get to the gym or main dining room, both of which tend to be at one end or the other. I have not had a problem with seasickness so location for that is not an issue with me.

I've only been on one cruise and we got an interior cabin - it was quite small and no view or window. It was on the 6th floor, back of the ship.

If I had to do it again I would've chosen a lower floor and more in the middle of the ship because we experienced some heavy rolling and I got seasick from it.

We travelled to Greece.

I prefer mid ship, but I have had rooms at both ends too. No problem, but then I don't get sea sick at all. I have always had a balcony, except once a mini suite. The mini suite was great because it had a couch in it and a large balcony. As far as I'm concerned, the balcony is the best way to go, especially on a scenic trip Alaska or Panama Canal. A inside cabin would make me claustrophobic, plus you don't know if it's day or nighttime. Even waking up at night, I want to be able to see out. I prefer Princess cruise lines.

middle of the ship is best for less rocking..main deck is just as good as any of the other higher decks and less expensive too...ocean view is nice..balcony would be better, but last cruise i was on the balcony were right in front of the lifeboats so it didnt seem like they had a very good view..i had a great view out my window..when i was in my room..that is
