Cruise destination question? |
Our family of 9 is taking our first ever cruise. We have 2 destinations in mind: the Bahammas or the Caribbean. I here that the Bahammas are too commericalized now. If anyone has been to these two places can you help? Which one should we go to? Please tell us your experience! Price is no option. |

My suggestion would be taking a cruise that leaves San Juan and heads to the southern Caribbean. This way you don't have as many days aboard ship and spend more time on the islands. Try ibtraveling.com to compare prices on cruises. You can also save some money by buying your own snorkel equipment here (one set for each person because you won't want to share once you get to a beach.) On the days you head to the beach, bring a bag lunch from the ship (they'll provide you with one if you ask) and hop in a taxi. Ask the taxi man to bring you to the best best for snorkeling. Once you go snorkeling you'll be hooked. promise. Just don't touch the coral, it's the fish's food and they need it, so don't kill it.
You'll have your mornings and evenings on board ship for plenty of fun while you travel to your next island. |

I would suggest the Caribbean. I've heard that some parts of the bahamas aren't very nice. I've been to the Caribbean a few times, and I love it! |

Both places are pretty much similar. They both have warm caribbean sun, beautiful clear water and lots to do. I enjoyed the caribbean the most and I have been on both the western caribbean and eastern caribbean and of course the bahamas My favorite was on the eastern caribbean at a place called St Thomas. We did an excursion that took us to trunk bay in St John and it was the best snorkeling I have ever done. Another thing to not miss is the Tortuga rums cakes there. Also Grand caymen has some of the best shopping ever. |

I just got back from the Caribbean last Friday! And let me tell you, it's completely breathtaking! The water is crystal blue, wonderful tropical fish, the islands are so beautiful, and the people on the islands were very friendly, too! We went to Cozumel, Mexico and to Key West. Key West was very pretty I loved the town, not like any other ordinary town in your neighborhood. It's really neat also seeing chickens and roosters walking around on the streets and rooftops. Cozumel was very gorgeous and there was plenty to do. On a cruise you choose they will have a shore excursions desk open were you can book excursions to go too. You can also do it online on the cruise lines website. Cozumel is a great shopping area, and lots of wonderful things they have out to buy. Some of the things they have our very unique; for instance they have purses that were made from candy wrappers. Very cool. In Cozumel there are tons of things to do depending on your interests. Their liquor is very cheap, and you can always take it back on the cruise with you. II've never been to the Bahamas so I can't tell you about that, but whatever destination you choose - you will have a glorious time. My dad(who completely HATES boats) went along with us along with my mom becuase we bought them a ticket to go, and they ended up being hooked on cruisng they loved it that much! Its been 4 days since we got back and they are planning a cruise to Hawaii. Whatever you choose (Bahammas or Caribbean) I'm sure you won't regret either one! Good luck choosing!
Happy cruisng!! =] |

Destination and Cruise Line selection is always a matter of preference. The departing port also me affect the available choices. I am pretty sure that with such a number of family members participating it will not matter what you decide, it will be a great time.
You indicated that price is no an option or a problem. I will like to recommend Disney Cruise Line to either the Bahamas or their 7 days Caribbean; presently running at a great value for the quality of services that you will receive. But right now all cruise lines are giving great prices due to the economy and being that it is their low season on sales, so take advantage and make your reservations for 2008, 2009 and/or even 2010.
Royal Caribbean has a wounderful new itinerary to Panama Canal, Carnival offers great value for Western Caribbean. Happy cruising!

Depends on the Caribbean islands you are talking about, but for the most part the Caribbean is much better. Don't get me wrong the bahammas are nice but it seems to be a little run down (dirty) except around the resorts. The far eastern Caribbean islands are really beautiful. Like St. Thomas & St. John, Antigua, Barbados. But your with a group so of course budget rules. I have been to both with my family (10 +) And we just have a blast no matter where we go because there's so much to do on and off the boat. Have fun and take lots of pictures! |
